I read a while ago that most drug store shampoos aren't the proper pH for hair (I think 4.5-5.5 is idea) - is this the case with Creme of Nature's shampoo?

I know it offers great slippage and I will forever use it as my post braids shampoo but do you think this is something I should use on the regular?

Where can one purchase litmus papers (excluding on-line vendors)?

I was a Nexxus user and I tried Kenra's shampoo a few times. I was thinking of giving Paul Mitchell a whirl. That same article I read said that most salon brand shampoos have the proper pH for hair.

CON is pH balanced. Most shampoos are actually.

I remember testing CON pH in a chemisty class where we had to bring in shampoos to test the pH. Most were 7 (like water) or less.

But I don't think it is low enough to use it as a neutralizer after chemicals/color. I may be, but I would not push it.
