Does anyone know how to do a french roll?

I haven't seen those videos yet but the French Twist or Roll is one of the first protective styles I learned when I came to LHCF. I love that style and it takes me about a minute or two to do.
I gather my hair as if I was going to make a ponytail, smoothing the sides, puling it up a little higher, then I take my left hand, for example, and roll my hair like I'm tucking it under vertically. I insert a Good Hair Days pin at the top and bottom (and in between if necessary). I like leaving a long tendril hanging on one side. I receive many compliments on this style.

It doesn't have to be perfect. This style can be somewhat messy and still look good. It looks good in jeans or dressed up.:)

This pic is a couple of years old now but I do wear this style and not even for a protective style anymore.

Hi Macheriamour,

That is my favorite protective style.

I gather my hair on each side, sweeping it back with my hands. If it is a looser roll, I don't need to brush the sides, but if I want it smoother, I do so with a boar bristle brush. Then I tuck the left side under the right side as I am preparing to pull it upward vertically. I gently pull the right side over and tuck the ends under. When I have all of the hair neatly pulled, I secure it with a hair comb. Most of the time I can use the black wire ones. (I think they are from Goody.) That way it looks somewhat invisible. This is easier and gives a more uniform look than individual pins, I think. People with really long hair, like yours, will probably need two hair combs.

I am going to add a step-by-step to my album soon.

Those were some great videos. I was kinda mad at that haarkram video because it cut off right at the part i was confused about. It's amzing how you can accomplish one style a hundred different ways. Great thread ladies, i had to subscribe to this one.
