Does Anyone Here Use Olaplex

Im natural but use heat every two weeks and I want something that will help my hair not get damaged. I keep hearing about Olaplex. I see they have #3 at Sephora. Do I need to use 1,2&3 or can I just use #3 when I wash? What kind of results have you guys experienced?

I’ve used it off and on over the last few years. I would start with 1 & 2, then maintain with 3. 2 is a stronger version of 3, so you may be able to get by with diluting 2 and using it for weekly maintenance. This could possibly save a person some money.

As of current, I’m taking a break from it. I’m assuming 2 was too strong for hair, as I forgot to dilute it. I’m assuming it’s the reason for my huge setback, hair loss. However, that setback is how it has been on my hair, if my assumptions are correct. My hair, and me, are different. Some e-Sisters have have used it with great success.

I don’t use it anymore.
Thanks! Did you see good results?

No, I’m assuming it caused extensive hair breakage. But, what doesn’t work for me may work for others.

There is a thread, that may provide useful information, on the Forum, titled: “Olaplex: The Game Changer”. I think that’s the name.

Best of luck.

I used Olaplex with good success for over a year to repair/reduce breakage and damage from heat damaged hair. I was a straight hair natural for 4 years, 2 years successful no heat damage. The last 2 years including the year I was pregnant with my last child I started going to the Dominican salon to get my hair straightened every 1-2 weeks. During my pregnancy I was either bedrest or modified bed rest so getting my hair done was a treat to get out of the house. Unfortunately my hair became very damaged and my naturally thick hair thinned considerably. Early 2016 I found the Olaplex thread mentioned above and started using steps 1 and 2 faithfully for probably 6 months or more. I switched to step 3 for maintenance once my hair improved. Again YMMV since your using it to be preventive while I was in complete repair mode. I never had any issues using any of the steps and I would reccomend as a straight hair natural that you deep condition as if your life depended on it. DC with heat if possible everytime you cleanse. I always DC everytime before I went to the salon and I am convinced it's the only reason I still had any hair after those 2 years. Good luck!

Here are two links, the first in the blue shirt from 2015 shows how damaged my hair was and the 2nd is a year later after better practices including using Olaplex.

I was not going to get this but after seeing your results and tremendous progress using Olaplex, I decided to bite the bullet and get it. I think I really need this now. I have Alfaparf Bond Rebuilder and that stuff works but y'all know me, always trying stuff...for research purposes of course :look:. Now if this works well on my hair like I hope it would, I will stick with this one.

@Aggie, good luck sis I pray it works for you! Keep me posted.

I was using no.3 faithfully starting beginning of the year when I was straightening my hair biweekly. I stopped half-way last month when I realize my hair getting brittle (slightly). I figured I was using too much (only got three maybe 4 uses from each bottle. I do love the olaplex no. 3 and would definitely recommend especially straightening hair (natural or relax).

Agreed, overuse can become a problem and reverse all of our efforts to keep hair on our heads. I will be using mine only as needed. Easy way to know when it's needed - you will see breakage, lots of it /more than normal.

How often were you using Olaplex No 3 when you realized your hair was getting brittle?

I use the Sally's Ion version. I doubt it's as concentrated, but it 1) is a great treatment for restoring elasticity and strength during/after color 2) appears to have reverted some heat damage. a piece that was almost completely straight in the front from doing too much with the flatiron trying to blend with a weave now has some wave/curl to it.

it might be a nice route to try a less expensive version to see if you like it.

I use the #2 every 2-3 months. I read that the Olaplex re-bonding is "permanent", and the newly formed bonds shouldn't break again until you use heat or undergo a chemical service etc...

@nymane
Do you remember where you read this info and can you add a link here please?

Sure - you can find it on the Olaplex blog FAQs page: http://www.olaplex-me.com/faq.php

"WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I USE OLAPLEX A FEW TIMES ON COMPROMISED HAIR THEN STOP?
Will the bonds that were created eventually break and cause my hair to then break? This question is asked often and the answer is no. Even if you completely stop using Olaplex, the protection that Olaplex offered is permanent."

I also read their instagram page from time to time, and Olaplex reps always emphasis that the bonds are permanent until we break them again

Thanks a million.

This is good to know. I’m guessing that using No 3 after a relaxer should be sufficient, since I don’t use direct heat or color.

I intend to use Olaplex after all my henna treatments followed up with some really good deep moisturizing conditioner. My hair is so strong after a henna treatment and moisture is usually needed afterwards.

What's the Sally's version called and how do you use it?
It’s called ion absolute perfection and there are two steps. I mix the first step in with my color just following the provided directions. I touch up my color about every three months.

The second step I use as a DC alone after color or mixed in with my other DCs and sit under a dryer for some heat.

This morning I poured some of my herbal tea rinse on my scalp and hair while I showered.

My routine for tonight and tomorrow:

-I decided to detox my hair and scalp tonight withJMoniquesNaturals Dead Sea Mud Hair Mask overnight tonight.
-I will shampoo in the morning with Keracare Detangling Moisturizing Shampoo,
-Henna my hair

-Olaplex steps #1 through 5
-Deep Condition with a combination of Natur Growth Cayena Wood and Castor Argan mixed with a little NG Rose Clay DC for softness.

-Leave-in with SSI Cranberry Cream Hair Cocktail
-Heavy seal later with Lustrasilk Curl Max Curl Moisturizer, Shea Butter and Grease
-Scalp massage with Follicle Care Bambu Scalp Drops and jbco.

MY OFFICIAL OLAPLEX UPDATE:

I skipped my Olaplex step 3 today since steps 1 and 2 were enough for now. I will try to remember to use step 3 during my next wash day.

By the way, that step #4 (shampoo) is the business.

It really is very concentrated, smells wonderful and cleaned my hair while maintaining softness. It's a hit and a keeper for sure.

Now as for step #5 - the rinse out conditioner):

My take on this one is that it did it's job as a rinse out, ie., strengthens and moisturizes. However, I believe it is the perfect conditioner for oilier hair types. If it had more slip than it did for our African American hair, it would not be suitable for oily hair.

So in my honest opinion, it was a perfect medium for both oily and dry hair. Now mind you, it did not leave my hair hard and dry. On the contrary, it had just enough moisture and just enough strengthening properties. So I would even go so far as to call it a balancing conditioner.

It is a hit for my hair. I just wished it came in 16 or 32 oz bottles because I can go through that 8 oz bottle with 3-4 washes alone. I will use it sparingly as best I can and try to get about 6 rinses out of it instead.
