Does Anyone Else Have Extremely Restless Fingers?

I guess that's what you'd call it, but for about long as I can remember, I've had a hard time wearing the same hairstyle for long periods of time. Braids come to mind, but really it's anything other than loose, free hair. Though for some reason I was able to do it with weave.

Anyway, right now I've got these finger coils in my hair, and they are driving me CRAZY!!! Not only do I just flat out hate them, (they look awful to me!) but every few minutes or so, I have to talk myself out of washing them out! This is not unusual for me because I felt the same way with my previous set of finger coils, my twists, and pretty much every time I've ever had braids. It's not a good thing because I'm now learning that I HAVE to reduce manipulation so that my hair can continue to thrive!

Does anyone else have problems wearing protective and low manipulation styles? How do you deal with it?

ETA: I think this is a byproduct of HIH disease. I have GOT to get with the program! :ohwell::perplexed:rolleyes::lachen:

Omg me!!! I have trouble keeping any hairstyle for longer than a week an a half. Lol

I'm going to have to get over that though because I am going to install a very expensive sew in soon .

ETA: I still haven't figured out how to make myself stop except to try and remind myself that less manipulation = more retention.

YES!
My problem is that I can't keep a style too long because I'm addicted to wetting/massaging my hair in the shower. I flat two-strand twisted my hair last Thursday to wear under a wig and I have been dying to unravel them since Friday night. This is the longest hairstyle I have kept since wearing Senegalese twists. It's so funny to me because I have always gotten really bored with the same style week after week, but when I had a relaxer, I wore my hair pretty much the same exact way for weeks at a time because I was told to avoid wetting/washing my hair. Now, I can hardly make it 2-3 days without co-washing. I just love wetting my hair and having my hands in my hair and on my scalp while doing it. The only thing keeping me from doing it is that I picked a style that isn't very easy for me to do (I just learned how to flat two-strand twist) so I am not so quick to take it down just to have to redo it. Maybe choose something that takes a long time or a lot of effort so you won't be so quick to try and mess it up. I really have to train myself to manipulate my hair less.

Much like my sister (Hi Erica!) I do.

Mostly because especially in the summer I can't resist the urge to cowash ALL THE TIME. I think I would probably exercise less if i didn't know about cowashing. (Actually I lie. back in my Pre-LHCF days I would wet my hair almost every day in the summer, out of sheer lazyness.)

I actually just sort of stop any sort of intensive styling because i know i'll take it out way to soon.

I used to have this problem and I would always change up my hair style. But since my hair has gotten to apl and I can bun I am in love with the ease of this style and hardly do anything else to my hair.

this is a classic case of HIH syndrome. aka hand in hair syndrome. don't worry, you are not alone lol. I think there was a thread from a while back with all sorts of confessions coming out on this issue :lachen:

I can totally relate! Most of the ladies with long healthy hair credit it to protective styling/low manipulation styles. I try.. but it's soooo hard for me not to my hair. I love doing my hair. I can't remember the last time I had a style that lasted a week! (much less 2 weeks). I don't think there's any way around this problem for me.

Restless fingers??? That's too cute, lol...That's definitely an off-shoot of HAND IN HAIR disease...Let your hair do its thing!!! LOL...

YES... as a child I "played" with a patch in the front of my head until it was almost bare. Ive nvr really gotten over the intence urge to touch my hair, I just transferred to a less obvious section, my nape, particularly th e right side. When I was relaxed it wasnt an issue as the rest of my hair always covered it, I just wuddnt do a high bun as the area wud show.

since hair boards I have really weaned myself from touching my hair a lot more, specifically b/c I had to PS and my main style was a bun ... so basically vanity got me to reduce... but not stop

now that Im natural and I want to do puffs and not have a gross looking patch on my nape Ive almost stopped after taking some pictures and seeing the damage caused by my restless fingers.

that area is now growing back since Im making a conscious effort not to touch it.

ETA ooops, thats wat I get for NOT reading the content of the OPs post before posting LOL Oh well

carry on :)
