Unlvgirl, I hope you don't mind me posting a pic of your hair, I just want to illustrate what I'm talking about...If the picture does not show, it's wear you roll all of your hair with one big magnetic roller! Check out her album!

I have started wearing my hair like this at night and my hair turns out looking great!!! Plus it's comfortable to wear and isnt stressful to my hair. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

/images/graemlins/scratchchin.gif I was wondering if anyone has done this right after washing their hair...instead of rollersets, wetwraps, braidouts or any other style??? I wonder how that turns out!

If no one has, I'm going to try it out on my hair for the first time. It seems very easy to do and requires little time and manipulation...perfect for the challenges I'm doing! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I started wearing my hair like that because it produced the same look as wrapping my hair. Once my hair got past my waist it was difficult for me to wrap my hair without the top falling on me.

I've been doing this for about two years now. It works for me. /images/graemlins/up.gif /images/graemlins/up.gif

Forget the roller....look at all that beautiful hair!! Just kiddin'. That's a great idea!

I am officially a stalker!

Unlvgirl, your hair is simply beautiful! When I saw your pics you became an instant inspiration for me. I want to grow my hair to great lengths and you provided the inspiration to keep me growing closer to my goal.

BTW, how long did it take to grow your hair that long???

I started growing out my relaxer in 1999, so about five years. I never did the big chop I transitioned wear braids while I was transitioning.

This is the longest my hair has ever been in my life, I would have never thought I would grow this long. I was happy at waist length. Then I got curious as to just how long I could grow my hair. So far its still growing, but I think I finally feel like I have enough hair so this wear I'm stopping at. /images/graemlins/Rose.gif

After taking my hair down from this one big roller, my hair actually looks better than what it does from being wrapped. Right now, I have 6 weeks of new growth plus 3 months of some underprocessed hair in my crown area. I can't wait until I get a fresh relaxer to see how good it will look. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I wear one big roller like that to sleep at night -- works great as way to sleep easy and still have bounce/curl during the day without heat.

Can someone explain how it's done? It doesn't look like you can do it unless your hair is at least bra strap..... /images/graemlins/confused.gif

Do you roll the roller up or down? How do you get the ends to stick to the roller and how do you fit all your hair on that one little roller? And have it stay...?

/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I know I sound like a dingbat - but I can't figure out for the life of me, by looking at it, how someone with shoulder length hair would make that work?

I don't do mine exactly like the photo, but I use one large magnetic roller (red or grey, depending on how long post relaxer) at the the center or top of my head, rolled down and clipped.

Tracy, I have shoulder length hair. At first, I didn't know exactly how to do it either. I just looked at Unlvgirl's picture and went by that.

If you look at the picture, you will notice that the roller is rolled as if your hair is going to be flipped up/out. The largest magnetic rollers I have are the red colored ones. Any larger size probably wouldn't work because my hair isn't long enough.

Here are the steps I take:
1. I comb all my hair back with a wide tooth comb (I usually have a 2" inch middle part in the front, but it doesn't matter; depends on how you want your hair to look in the front). I might lightly brush my hair if it isn't smooth enough.
2. I use Motions Wrap Foam Lotion on my hair and ends (just enough to get my hair to stick to the roller). OR I might use oils on my ends OR ElastaQP Oil Recovery if they aren't moist enough to stick to the roller. But usually the Motions Wrap Foam Lotion does the trick!
3. Then I take the red roller, starting at my ends, and roll it up (flipped up...not curled under). Make sure you get most of your hair pretty snug around the roller so it won't hang loose (if that makes sense).
4. I use one or two duck-bill clips to hold it together. Then I tie my silk scarf around my hair.
Turns out nice when I take it down in the morning! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hope that helps! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I roll it just like poohbear does, I use several hair pins to keep the roller in place. It does still fall out sometimes but my scarf pretty much keeps it in place. I do this because I have hard time with roller sets and wraps sometimes leaves my hair flat.

The girl who did my hair this last time, told me to use 3/4 rollers (I use 3) along my crown like a mohawk. The best sleep style I've ever tried! My hair looks freshly doobied every time! AND..If my hair falls falt during the day, I put the rollers in for 30 mins to an hour and the style is back!

does your hair ever look flat on the sides??

NOPE..the layers even lay perfectly..I was surprised at how well it turned out. Usually, I'll do the roller trick one night and the next wrap it and it will still look good.

hmmm...then i might have to try your method too if I want more curl or something...thanks for sharing! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hopefully, when my hair is long enough I can do this. It's a great idea. /images/graemlins/smile.gif Poohbear, let me know if you try it on wet hair.

Lorraine, your hair is longer than mine so of course you should be able to do your hair like hers. /images/graemlins/smile.gif I will let you know how it turns out on wet hair whenever I decide to try it. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

That's what i do, too! /images/graemlins/up.gif When I want a curlier look, I use paper-wrapped sponge rollers instead. Works great! /images/graemlins/clap.gif

If you look at the picture, you will notice that the roller is rolled as if your hair is going to be flipped up/out.
---------------------------------------------------------

Why is it rolled as if your hair is going to be flipped up as opposed to rolled under?

TIA!

That's just what works for me. When I tried to roll it under it would not stay in place. /images/graemlins/spinning.gif

Here's a pic of my hair like this:

*If it doesnt show up, check out my November album - password: Jesus . It's the very last pic (#18 I think). /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I see it Poohbear, I'm just wondering how it is in the morning when you take the roller out? I guess I might just experiment one of these days. I tried the technique DatJerseyDyme posted on this thread tonight, or something like I imagined she was describing. I'll see how it goes in the a.m.

My hair comes out nice and sleek. I have a nice flipped out curl. (I like my hair flipped out rather than bumped under). I'll post a pic later on. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks for all of your help Poohbear! I like my hair curled under so I rolled it similarly to how DatJerseyDyme described. It came out good!

My roomate does this, but she uses a flexirod thingy. Her hair is shoulder length and on the fine side. Anyway, her hair comes out looking nice in the morning.
