I think I do. It's in ORS Olive Oil and Hairveda's Whipped Cream, and with each of these products, my hair initially looks and feels great, but then a few hours later or the next morning it feels hard and dry. Still shiny, but it's like straw so that defeats the purpose. A lot of people seem to be raving about Glycerin and I'm wondering if I'm the only one who can't use it?:nono:

my hair hates glycerine and it really jacked my daughter's hair using long term too

I have a thread on it somewhere

search, 'calling all glycerine users' many reported the same

I have tried many "moisturizers" and glycerin is the ONLY thing that moisturizes my hair. I use it in a spray bottle with water, and seal with oil.

When it was warmer, I had glycerin mixed with aloe in a 40:60 concentration. It was good, but as it got colder, I read here its better to dilute the glycerin more. So I added water. So I'm guessing it's now at a 20:80 concentration..But after I spray the mixture, no matter the concentration, I spritz my hair with plain water that I have in a little bottle. I wait a minute or two while I do other stuff to let the glycerin do its thing. Then I seal. If I put my braids up in a little bun, my ends in the bun usually stay moist. The rest of my hair stays pretty soft too.

I'm starting to carry my little water bottle with me now though, to spritz my hair quickly during the day, as it gets colder.

I use glycerin in moderation but only during the warm months. Even then, I make sure I'm following up w/some type of oil. Even when I use the Whipped Cream to baggy in the chilly months, I f/u w/an oil.

I clicked on the wrong option in the poll. My hair hates glycerin, it makes my hair a frizzy mess.

I have taken a break from it. I think learn term use my not be good. At first my hair was so soft and manageable, but a few months ago it started drying out my hair. I need to find another moisturizer though.

I think glycerin might be why my hair HATES Keracare Humecto. Every time I use it my hair feels like straw. It reminds me of when I used to use Infusium back in the day when I had a relaxer. It's immediate for me. I have never felt that luxurious feeling everyone talks about. And that crap is expensive as heck.

Lol 50/50 on the poll, weird. I don't feel so out of the loop now then. I do remember some of the ladies saying it works best in more humid climates. It's humid for most of the summer where I live but it's fall now so the air is dry as heck. I don't think I'll be chancing it with products that include glycerin anymore though, at least not until summer rolls around, at which point my hair will be airdrying most days. I can't wait! :drunk:

ive tried glycerine and aloe vera 1:1 and at first my hair was soft but after...my hair felt like straw no matter what I did to my hair. Plus, it took 2 weeks for my hair to recover. ive ACV on the first week and did a tea rinse on the second week with indian powders.

I think it does work better in humid weather. I live in Texas and I love glycerin, I use Oyin Greg, and Juice and Berries spray.

What I normally do to make my hair extra soft is I spray my hair with either or and then hop in the shower :love2:, and my hair feels really good. It's just been trial and error with me and I find that when I use it with steam my hair really benefits.

My hair hates glycerin. I never realized how many products contain glycerin until I went natural. I didn't have a problem with glycerin when I was relaxed. Or maybe I just didn't realize that was why my hair was dry.

I hope the same doens't happen to me. I brought glycerin from the organic store but i mix it with olive, castor and grape seed oil. hmmm, we'll see...

i don't use it everyday tho
Good luck! You've got a 50/50 chance of either destroying your hair or falling in love

Yeah, I just realized that there was glycerin in the leave-in I mixed the Whipped Cream with last night(Paul Mitchell The Conditioner). My hair is crying right now, except without the actual moisture of tears. :ohwell: I really have to watch out for this ingredient in my products now. At least I'm learning something though!

My hair hates it too. If it's just in something, its not a big deal, but when I tried using it mixed with water on my hair. :nono: It was not a good look.

Thanks for posting the link Irresistible. So I read thru, so in the end what products did you use on your daughter's hair in replacement of glycerine and how well did it/they work?
tia.
That is when I went to M.O.M (Daily Doctor's Miracle Oil Moisturizer) for her hair ,no glycerine, and her hair thrived and was beautiful, I have been trying to get her to revisit this leave in, I posted a thread here with pictures of it in her hair when I ran across them again and saw the shine, :eek2: I was like WOW! and I want to get her using it again, but right now all she is feeling is Coconut oil and water, and she gave me a hard time for the longest with using oil too , now I cant get her to use N E THING else *sigh*

See in my case , in this particular instance *The hair thing* the apple did fall far from the tree, she aint never been feeling this 'hair thing' very much at all , she gets set in her ways and it take something drastic for her to want to change that. Sucks for me! :nono:

She is grown now, so you know, only so much I have say over now, and really she is like 'leave me alone' about the hair thing cause she just aint into it, she just buns it up everyday with her oil and water and calls it a day

it is really damn beautiful though, when I finally saw it DOWN I fought her to take pics and trim after seeing it , I was like  maybe I should be doing just oil and water muh dang self , :lachen:

Wow, your daughter's hair is gorgeous (like her mama's). Thanks for the response, I will look out for this product, I want to give it a try on my dd's hair.

I think I posted this somewhere here before that glycerine and other humectants work best in areas/climates where the humidity is constantly above 65% because it pulls moisture from the air or where ever it they can get it. Now if the humidity falls below 65% then what it actually does now is pull the moisture from whereever it can get it and can you guess where that is? Unfortunately it pulls the moisture from your skin and hence dry scalp and dry hair.

Glycerine and all other humectants are perfect for me because I live in the Bahamas where the humidity is almost always at 80% or above especially in the spring, summer and fall times. So be careful ladies of when and where you are using any humectants. If you live in a dry climate area, I wouldn't recommend using too much humectants but sure if you are going on a vacation to the Caribbean, then by all means, it's okay to wear it then.

I used all non-glycerin products in my wash yesterday except for the Hairveda Sitrinillah Mask as a deep conditioner, and had the SAME PROBLEM! My hair was buttery soft yesterday, and I put some Vatika Frosting on it before I went to bed for fear of the same thing happening and guess what...it did! My hair, especially my ends, were really dry this morning and I woke up sometime in the middle of the night scratching my head vigorously. :ohwell:

Could I really, in all likelihood be THAT sensitive to glycerin? That I can't use it straight OR any products containing it? If so, I can't use like half of the stuff I'm using now, including WEN (which I didn't use yesterday either). I'll have to find another deep conditioner, and something else to co-wash with. :wallbash: This is insane.

YES it is possible! My hair feels like straight gunk to me whenever I use it, I can feel the softness of it, but I litterally cannot tolerate the stickiness and gunk , every time I use it my hair feels like a HAM!

if you have been using it a while, like I had on my daughter, using it daily for somewhere between a year or two, yeah it could be that bad, I saw it with my own eyes on her! only the thing is glycerine did give it a temporary fix again, and nothing else worked, I had to work on her hair and it took time for it to get back

I wish I could tell you what I did to fix it, it was so many years ago and I see I only included so much info on the other thread, I do know I worked on her hair and gave her 'withdrawl' from the glycerine at the same time. I do know it was in the worst shape ever.

I do believe once you get your hair back to normal you might be able to tolerate it better in less amounts , less frequently

I use honeyquat now, b/c VG just doesn't really work. Too little and it does nothing, too much and my hair is sticky. I gave up on trying to find a happy medium. Now I only prepoo/dc with it.

If you use it and you’re in a super dry climate, it will pull moisture — not from the air, but from your hair — so you have to be careful,” Coulton says. “If you’re going to use it, it needs to be in combination with other moisturizing ingredients — maybe some oils and water — so even if you’re in that dry climate, it doesn’t have a drying effect on your hair.”

This is good to read. :yep:
