Before I joined the boards or even knew what protective styles were..I was into trying to find better ways of styling my hair and doing new styles. Over the years, in addition to the many products I've purchased, I would buy a lot of hair gadgets..

You know the Perfect Bun makers and Hairdinis that were supposed to make it easy to make french rolls etc etc. I would fool with them for awhile and then some were either too hard to use or weren't working as they promised and I would give up. And I would lose hair trying them too!!

Yesterday, after going through them for over an hour, I realized that most of the items I purchased were ripoffs. That they were just plain false advertisement and would never work for my hair.

And I spent good money on these items too!! I think I spent almost $60-$70 over the years (some still had the price stickers on them).

Well anyway, I just wanted to share my experience to warn innocent consumers. I also wanted to know if any of you have used any successfully and which products...I promise I won't run out and get them (I probably have them here, anyway

Thanks for the heads up about these gadgets, Carmen Rose! Every time I go into Claire's with my daughter I'm always checking out those ClipDini, HairDini, etc. and the only thing that has stopped me from getting them is that the instructions seem too complicated!! I'm glad now that I didn't!!

I was thinking of getting the hairagami or sophistowist. I guess those are no good eh?

Oh well. I'll just continue using my sticks and combs.

CarmenRose!
Thank you..thank you. I have been holding onto this Hairdini thingy for the past 2 years thinking that I was just all thumbs. I was like it will work when my hair gets thicker (it has), it will work when my hair gets longer (it has), now I realize the

thing don't work, and it ain't me or my hair!

Now please excuse me, I got a Haidini to kick to the curb

The only hair 'gadgets' I have are a pair of hair sticks. They're easy for me to 'operate'. Some of the other gadgets out there sound good, but I've often wondered how good and/or bad they really are.

I don't consider ponytail holders, chopsticks and other decorations "hair gadgets" per se. Even though they are used to 'hold hair styles' I consider them more of an accessory.

I love chopsticks and have used them to hold french twists and to make my buns a little fancy. I have so many of these too. I definitely approve of these..

I'm mainly talking about products that promise to help you make things like buns or french rolls or other designs such as the "Hairdini" and "Hairagami" (which isn't that bad, it makes a good ponytail holder, but it clicks closed and can tangle the hair, I don't really like it..I also bought their "monkey claws" and frankly I'm afraid to use them..

Your length is good..

I hope these help, not too good with instructions..

Comb your hair back and then brush it to one side. Then gather it loose-ponytail like. Begin twisting the hair up until you get to the top of the head..You can use pins, a french roll comb, or chopsticks to hold it. You can leave the ends out, but to protect them it's best to tuck them.

You can also use a styrofoam french roll maker (looks like a bun )maker or fake hair to thicken it, but that's a little bit more complicated..

Try the first method..Try playing around with your hair..

Here's a link that I found:
