do you think it's alright to microwave a conditoner?

I'm about to wash my hair but, do not want to get out of the shower to deep condition my hair under the dryer. Do you think I can get the same deep condition results if I heat up my conditoner for a little bit and leave it on for a couple of mintues?

I wanna know too because I don't have time to lug out that bonnet dryer or attachment and do all that.

Does the microwave heat really kill off the good ingredients? And I put EO's and carrier oils in my conditioner so does the heat make the oils lose their potency?

Thought about buying one of those microwave heat caps, but i heard too many ladies on here getting burned by them and having them fall apart.

For some reason I am a bit leery of heating conditioner in the microwave. What I do is heat some water in the microwave (3 minutes usually gets it boiling), then put my conditioner in a little container in the water once it's out of the microwave. That usually takes another 5 minutes or so to gently heat the conditioner, stirring or shaking every so often. I would add any EOs after I heat. Stir or shake again, then apply.

:yep: It works, maybe not as well as a heated (the heat helps to open your cuticles) deep conditioning session but just make your conditioner/oil mix does not get too HOT!

I think warming it in the mic is okay.

Have you tried DC on dry hair with heat before poo'ing and then doing a 5-10 min. condish after rinsing the poo (like while you finish showering)?

I do this now that its so freezing cold b/c I hate jumping in and out the shower in the winter. It really works well for me.

Depends on the conditioner. Certain oils don't heat properly, either. I know wheat germ smells and gets cloggy when its heated. Honey tends to look funny too.

mmm.. I am going to have to try heating conditioner in the microwave. I have never thought about this. I have heated up oils and butters but not conditioners.

If you’re not sure about microwaves (or just forgot, like me :brainy:) check out this website. http://rabi.phys.virginia.edu/HTW/microwave_ovens.html
Seems reliable… the person on the website mentions technically the microwave affects the water molecules shaking them rapidly (friction) causing it to create heat, therefore does affect other molecules. As well, it doesn’t 'kill' anything. Though it does mention ‘denatured proteins’. Denaturation is the major change in protein or nucleic acid structure by application of some external stress like heat. Though most of the examples I looked at relates to food (and bacteria). For example eggs.

So, I believe, based on my 5 mins research :drunk:, nuking your conditioner (or oils) seems to be fine:yep:. I’ll be doing it this weekend.

The only thing with nuking is…after while it cools off…as oppose to using a dryer which maintains constant heat on your hair. Or maybe it’s not a big deal, I’ve never tried it, maybe the time it takes to cool off is enough time for the conditioner to saturate(coat)?

In order to get the true benefits of deep conditioning, the deep conditioner should be on your hair for a minimum of 10 minutes. It was made to penetrate and needs that amount of time to do its thing. I specifically buy conditioners that require that it stays on my hair for 20 minutes or more. I dont think you can get the same effect by just heating the conditioner- your cuticles have to open and absorb.
But if you are talking about deep conditioning with a product that is not a deep conditioner- You'll get the benefits in the 2-3 minutes its on your hair. Elucence MB is the one conditioner Ive tried that does make my hair respond in 2-3 minutes. The bottle says one minute but it takes me at least that amount of time to work it through my hair.
Let us know how it works out- I am always looking for a shortcut

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't try it yet but I am going to soon. I don't know if I should try it on dry hair by sitting under the dryer for a couple of mintues then washing it out and applying a little more in the shower or just wet my hair in the shower and apply the heated conditoner.

I did a prepoo like that before with hair mayo. Ill probably just take a certain amount of the conditoner and put it in another container and microwave it or heat it up somehow...

Off I go...

Um yea...I don't think I will be trying that again. 1. The conditoner turns back into a solid very quickly. While I was washing my hair out it felt very soft but then some hairs started to cºme out. They were long so I believe it was from the scalp. So ill just stick to deep conditoning under a dryer or leaving the product on my hair without heat.
