Do you think I am over reacting?

Yes. You can't let hair care affect your relationships with close friends and family. If he had insulted your hair, that would be different; however, he said he likes you the way you are and you have to take it at that. A lot of us would change things about ourselves if we could, truth be told. You're probably right about the hair thing being deeper than he thinks, but you can't hold the way he feels against him. Just my two cents...

ETA: I have a good guy friend who has dreads. He HATES relaxed hair, but it's we don't let it come between us....however, we have argued about it in the past...we both learned to just let it go....

I feel I have over reacted slightly...I should take into consideration where he grew up and that he is basically living in a country full of asians...lol. Doesn't stop me being annoyed though.

yes i think you are over reacting, we black women seem to think that anyone who wants straight hair automatically hates afro hair.
I'd prefer someone who is honest than the one who has to pretend in order to make me happy because the day they are fed up, they just up and leave.#
relationships should be deeper than hair pattern and i think both parties should learn to compromise for the other.
