ok .....I can't help it....I wish I did not always watch my hair but I can't help it....:lachen::lachen:

Thats why I don't measure my hair.....I think that would take my obsession to a whole new level....I could see my self now measuring every 5 mins :lachen::lachen:

I use to like to watch my hair like a hawk. I would take pictures monthly and sometimes weekly. However, now I prefer to be surprised. Now, that I know what products and methods work for my hair, Im not too concern with messing up my progress or having setbacks. Because I stretch my relaxers the only time I take progress pic's is after my touch-ups. This year Im only relaxing 3 times!:yep:

Watching too close makes the steam burn my eyes, getting all paranoid to see if the food started to cook yet, is it simmering or boiling...it's too anxiety provoking for me. I need to set a timer and just walk away.

(can you see i had too much fun with the metaphor?)

I find that watching my progress only adds to my stress... an stress leads to hairloss so watching my pot boil is self-defeating

my plan is to set mini- goals ( 90 days or so) and then compare at that oint... eventually I want to only do comparison shots every 6 months

I can identify with the bolded. To me watching the pot boil goes way beyond keeping a close watch on what is going on with my hair. It's like I know what I need to do, so I do it. As long as I am consistent, it's all good, so why should I become unhealthily obsessed over what is happening? My hair doesn't like to be messed with too much anyway.

I'm a little of both, but more of letting it do what it will. LHCF has given so much information on "how" to grow healthy hair and from here I've learned that : a clean head + daily moisture and protective styling = at least 1/2 an inch of growth a month. Thats the equation I'm working with and I want to see how my hair tests against the norm. I've never measured my growth in the past so I have no idea if I grow 1/2 an inch or more a month, and even though I love rubbing my fingers through the ripples my new growth makes every so often, just leaving it alone makes it easier to determine the results when its time, based on how long I've stretched....and I've never stretched before. I'm doing it now cold turkey from perm-shedding-thinning frustration. :look:

sometimes you gotta watch it. i sure don't wanna have to clean up the sticky mess that got burnt on the bottom of the pot while i wasn't watchin'..............:grin:

Nah, I like to check on it every 2 weeks, or so. That way, I don't have to worry about nothing sticking to the bottom of the pot (it ain't boiling THAT fast), but at the same time, I don't get uber-obsessed with it......

I don't like to watch it but one particular section of my hair is fragile. I need to watch it like a hawk to prevent breakage....:nono:

I shouldn't check it as often as I do, but it's a difficult obsession to break. I know intellectually that it only causes extra stress and frustration, but it's really hard not to want to see what's happening.

I've noticed that I've calmed down a lot of watching my hair obsessively. I've learned to just let my hair do its thing. Also, I've been let down in the past when I watch over my hair all the time. I know my hair will grow regardless.

No not really, but I do prefer to taste it while it's boiling. If doesn't taste right, then I'd give it just a pinch of coaxing "Grooooow baby, growwwww":lol:
:lachen::lachen:

I'm trying not to look at my growth at ALL! I was measuring every week, but I rarely saw growth, so I'm tryna jsut let it do its own thing now

"A Watched Pot Never Boils", (so it seems)!
So, for me, having to watch is stress in itself;
but on the other hand knowing that I am doing the right things,
I like to be pleasantly surprised, which is encouragement in itself.

Same here. When I wasnt watching my hair like a hawk, it started growing. It was when I was obsessing about it that it took FOR-E-VER. Every time I got good growth, it was when my hair was the last thing on my mind.:yep:

I like to be surprised, but I keep feeling like I don't want to put it in a protective styles so I guess I'm watching it boil...lol my mom uses this phrase:grin:

"A watched pot never boils honey" haha

ITA with this, I purposely don't measure my hair or take many pictures from behind(straightened). It would drive me crazy!

I use to but I felt so frustrated and I thought my hair was making much progress. I finally just started letting it do its own thing and I am wowed at every relaxer.

A watched pot never boil. Hmmmm, yeah, I agree. :yep:

I used to measure all the time but it seemed like it was always the same length so I just decided to only measure after my touch-ups. :yep:

Well, I don't know if I prefer it or not. I've only recently started to care at all. When you watch it boil, it can seem like you're not making any progress. But I think taking frequent pictures is actually very helpful for me to see what's going on with my hair. For example, I took a pic of a stretched piece. Then I washed my hair too much in the twists and they started to mesh and I had a lot of breakage getting them apart. I took another pic right after that and my hair was shorter! Another example, I took a pic on Feb. 27th, went a week and washed my hair, let it dry and took another pic Mar. 7th and I had gained at least 1/2". So I see my hair can grow in spurts. It's pretty informative and interesting.

I watch the condition like a hawk but not growth so much although I will go through periods of using my fingers to calculate my growth constantly.

I'm forever doing the pull/stretch test to see if I've gained any length :sekret: I'm trying to stop doing that :look: I haven't flatironed at all in 6 months so that's good. :yep:

Do I watch my pot boil? Kinda. :ohwell:
