A lot of people have more than one shampoo. Do we need more than one? What do all of your shampoos do? Do you use them all at one washing or do you switch?

Hey, great minds think alike! I was going to post the same question!

I have three now (about to try a new one!), two regular and one clarifying and was wondering how often posters here alternate between brands. I've been advised to switch, but I'm unsure of the benefits of this.

I only have 3 shampoos:

Creme of Nature - Ultra Moisturizing
BreakThru - Moisturizing and Protein (I think)
Pantene Clarifying - I rarely use this (I've been using ACV rinses for the purpose of clarifying).

I don't use them together, just alternate them.

Great post, btw.

I only use Creme of Nature (green bottle). It works wonders for detangling and moisture. I'm looking for a good clarifying shampoo.

My list of shampoos to try include:
Elucence
Dove Moisturizing shampoo
Ion

I have 4 that I alternate and use

:

1. Lanza Protein Plus
2. Elasta QP Moisturizing
3 Elucence Moisturize Balanace
4. Neutrogena Clarifying - only once a month

Hi Dionne,

I noticed during my last trip to Sally's that Ion had a clarifying shampoo. I have not tried it, but figured I would let you know in case you wanted to try 2 things on your 'try list' at once.

Only three?!

I only have one. If I buy another shampoo I usually stop using the one I had before. What are the benefits of using more than one shampoo?

I think your hair could get "immune" to the agents in a shampoo if you use it constantly, so it's best to switch up to prevent buildup and such.

Is that a real answer.....or a PJ answer????

LOL, I think that's a real answer. A shampoo can stop being effective. It's good to alternate.

Probably a little of both.

I have 3 shampoos and they all have a different 'function' in addition to cleaning the hair:

Lanza Protein Plus - To stengthen the hair (use most often)
Lanza Deep Cleansing - To clarify/remove product build up and give a 'deeper' clean (use once a month)
Cream of Nature - A very moisturizing shampoo to switch occasionally with the first one (when I feel like it

I have five or six that I alternate. My hair is weird. Sometimes it needs a deep cleansing shampoo, sometimes a mild shampoo, sometimes something more moisturizing, etc. Plus I don't want my hair getting used to one shampoo. It seems like my hair gets used to products and then they stop working.

I think I use L'anza PP, Jason Sea Kelp and Elucence more than anything else...

Hi HoneyRocket,

I have 3 shampoos for 3 different hair issues..

1) Motions Lavish or Creme Of Nature (dry or normal hair)
moisturizing shampoos

2) Motions CPR, protein enriched shampoo

3) Suave Clarifying, to cleanse away buildup.

The brand names may change, but I try to keep those 3 main areas covered. I use only 1 shampoo per wash. I clarify once per month, & alternate between the moisturing & the protein shampoos.

i normally use three shampoos in one washing:

1. Elasta QP Bodifying: i LOVE this stuff. didn't know i needed a clarifying shampoo until i got a free sample of this! it works so well that i can use less of all of my other products when washing.

2. Nizoral Prescription Strength: this is the only thing that keeps my scalp halfway under control. after the Elasta, i put this on and use my scalp brush for a few, then let it sit on my hair while i shower.

3. KeraCare Detangling: since the Nizoral has the bad SLS in it, i use this one to help recover. it gives really good slip.

i've been using the last two shampoos for almost two years, i think. i just added the first one maybe a month ago. there's a method to my madness...

I alternate between Elucence and Aveda Sap Moss.
I don't use clarifying shampoos. If I feel I need one, I mix lemon juice with my shampoo.

I also use:

1. Aveda Sap Moss
2. Elasta QP Conditioning Shampoo
3. Neutrogena Moisturzing Shampoo (It gets rid of build-up, and still leaves the hair very soft)

I really want to try Creme of Nature again. I remember using it years ago, but feeling that it didn't really clean my hair well, but it may be because that was the only shampoo I was using at the time. Sounds like it would do a great job detangling my course hair.

I alternate between the Elucence Moisture Benefits Shampoo and the Design Essentials Moisture Retention Conditioning Shampoo. My hairstylist uses Nexxus Therappe.

I just started using two shampoos when I wash my hair. I use Elucence clarifying to rid my hair of the all the build up. I also use Elucence moisturing shampoo to soften my hair. Before I was using Aphogee evening primrose shampoo. I try to use up the shampoo first before switching but this board makes that hard to do.

I agree w/you, Crysdon....

Three I switch up w/for regular washing and one I use for clarifying....

Regular Washing
Aubrey Organics (AO) Islands Natural shampoo
AO JAY shampoo
AO White Camelia & Jasmin shampoo

Clarifying
AO Swimmers shampoo

I feel out of the loop with my 1 shampoo (creme of nature for dry hair). By the time I'm done with it isn't not even shampoo! I water it down so that my hair definitely doesn't dry out.

I have two basic shampoos,
Creme of Nature - Extra moisturizing
Clarifying shampoo - Suave, or any other kind of clarifying shampoo

Sweet Nic----I've been wanting to water my CON shampoo down for the summer. Do you still find it effective? ABout how much are you watering it down?

Onlychild, i giving you a warning about ion shampoo. This stuff is not moisturizing at all!!. Well at least not on my hair. My hair felt like dry tumbleweed after using this shampoo. I figured maybe because i was in hard water area in college, but then i tried it at home where my water is very soft, same effect. My hair never felt drier after using a shampoo expect optimum care. Sorry i felt i had to warn you. You can still try it if you want to because you know everyone hair is different. Just giving you a friendly warning from a fellow member.

I use more than one shampoo per session b/c my scalp and hair have different needs. I alternate between about 4 different shampoos depending on the condition of my scalp or hair at the time.

I have a generic version of Pantene for dry/damaged hair, and Clairol Renewal 5x for permed/color treated hair. I have 2, but will add Creme of Nature shampoo as well as Herbal Essences Fruit Fusions shampoo to my list. I do alternate brands when I can't find one of my bottles in my bedroom.
