I don't know about you, but I don't really like bone straight hair. I would prefer that my hair have a little bit of texture and curl to it.

Is anyone else like me?

Is part of the charm of the lye relaxer is that it often (but not always) leaves your hair with some texture?

My first relaxer was at a salon. It was my teenage years, and I didn't know anything about hair. I expected to be bone straight and even the stylist said it would be, but it wasn't. I guess he thought I only needed a texturizer, which is what I think he used (not sure).

I was disappointed, but after that I still tried some at home, but I didn't expect bone straight anymore (I actually mean the flat iron look, LOL, kids). It was quite nice for a while, but I stoped and decided to color instead. Going lighter and relaxing is too risky, imo.

If I was to relax, I'd prefer straight, but I heard isn't possible to have the flat ironed look just with a relaxer, or am I wrong? I don't know US/EU brands, so I really don't know.

lye relaxers burn my scalp faster so i end up rinsing sooner and i am left with texture but with the no lye i end up with that super flat bone straight look because i usually leave it on longer.... but since i often get breakage were my under processed hair is i might start using the no- lye again now that i know better, and would to really keep track of the time

Love it. In fact, I add oil & conditioner to make it process even slower & rinse it l out after 10 minutes.

That picture actually a few months ago after a Miss Jessie's Silkener (Aka lye w/oil & conditioner) touchup.

I just did my first touchup by myself a few days ago & it turned out very well. I used Mizani Lye relaxer & mixed it with jojoba oil & suave conditioner. It looks the same as the picture above, just a couple inches longer. Maybe I'll post pictures later.

That picture is how my hair looks after a fresh touchup. It gets bigger & poofier after a couple weeks. I love that look even better.

I couldn't answer the poll because that has not been my experience. I go to the salon to get relaxed with Paul Mitchell brand relaxer, and by the time my stylist is done, it looks like I have shiny, bone-straight Asian hair, which pretty much lasts until my next relaxer.

I did have a problem a few months ago, where a section of my hair (the one that had relaxer applied to it last, and therefore processed for the shortest amount of time) started breaking severely once some of the texture reappeared along the shaft after the new growth started coming in. But since I had my stylist start rotating which sections she would apply the relaxer to first, the issue seems to be correcting itself.

As for being left with a little texture, I wouldn't mind it, if it didn't cause so much stress and breakage to my fine strands. :ohwell:

Yup I prefer it.

It took some time to figure out how much to smooth but now that I have, I am happy.

I plan on going natural again and this will help make my transition smoother since I dont plan on cutting it all off like I did the last time.
