do you get relaxers from the dominican salons?

I was wondering if they give good ones because when I have gone too some and it seemed like everyone in there that had been constantly going had long beautiful hair. And they had been faithfully going so I was wondering if anyones hair has broken off from having them do the chemicals because I know sometimes random people do things and you don't even know their name...

I went once and for me it was awful, but for someone who relaxes their hair to bone straight, they would have loved it. When they were through with me my hair had no curl whatsoever, to straighten it I didn't need a flat iron, just a quick blowdry. But if I ever wanted to wear it curly, that was impossible, it was just limp flat straightish hair.

However, I do love getting my wash n set/blow there. :)

I now know to allow only my regular Dominican beautician to do the relaxer. I bring my own Silk Elements regular lye and a color signal change neutralizer. The degree of straightness is high but I do not mind, I basically bun, french roll or braid daily. I never comb out at the salon; that I do later that night after moisturizing.

My last relaxer 10 months ago was done by the Dominican salon. They did a pretty good job. They had a few different relaxers to choose from. I got Mizani. They didn't make it bone straight or leave it on too long.

I did once, and I never will again. They overlap so much and they pull the hair so straight as they put it in. Lucky I used a texlaxer when I did it, so my hair still had body.

it depends who u go to. I always got my touchup there. They usually do them bone straight though.

I love them for it! They apply it fast and efficiently. They do a better job than I could ever do. I love my hair bone straight so I do not mind. Also can't beat the price....$30.

They can do texlaxed as I remember one girl coming in with curly hair short, getting a relaxer out in for like 5 minutes, and she left with her hair (naturally) curly. I didn't know what it was until I came to LHCF because I thought why spend all that money just to run out the door....but now I know why she did it.

I get my touchups at the salon. I don't trust myself to do them yet. Right now they use Proclaim mild on my hair. They do a great job but it is bone straight (I like it like that though). Some clients bring their own relaxers too.

My stylist is Dominican. When I first went to her, I told her that I didn't want my hair bone straight and she listened. I bring my own relaxer because most of the relaxers her salon offers are too strong for my hair. I'm in and out of the salon in no time. No more spending the entire day in the salon on the weekends.

Well it seems like there are good and bad experiences
How do you know which relaxers are too strong for your hair, are they good at judging what your hair needs?

For me it was just from experience. Affirm thinned my hair. My hair is already thin to begin with. It would just be limp. Wouldn't hold any curls or anything. I switched to Mizani for fine hair and my hair did so much better. And I was able to wear it wet/wavy looking bc it left some of my texture in. You can always call and ask them which relaxers they have before hand or take your own. And be sure to let them know that you don't want it bone straight. When I went I hadn't had a perm in 6 months and she texlaxed it. IDK if it was done on purpose or not. I didn't realize it until I washed it the next time though. I also didn't get my hair blown out. It was too many people in there and i had already waited too long so I had her wrap it. It was pretty straight when I combed it out.

I agree! Had I never switched hairdressers I don't think I would have figured it out.

They do awesome rollersets at mine, but are too slow at applying a relaxer- and I watch them like a hawk. I wouldn't let them touch-up my head at the one I go to-

Not to hijack this thread but Ms. Buttafly, that little girl's hair is GORGEOUS!!!!! Please don't ever let lil mama get her own hands in it ex: highlights, hairspray, gel, curling irons- whatever you're doing, you do an amazing job at it!

Well noone ever got my hair straight so maybe my opinion is biased. My hair got straight from their hot dryer.

oh my that is how stylists would relax in the past. ick.

I plan on getting my next relaxer at a Dominican salon. I went there to get a rollerset so I could watch them do relaxers.

One of my friends recommended a black salon that she likes, but they don't have Mizani, which I've used for years. They have Mizani at the Dominican salon.

Co-sign...except I don't like getting ANYTHING there. They are just too rough with my hair. :nono:

Yeah, I didn't like the way they relaxed my hair as well. Plus, some spots didn't use neutralizing shampoo or good protein deep conditioners.

I hated the way my hair was relaxed. It was soooo underprocessed and rough to the touch. I wish I had brought my own relaxer, maybe that would have made a difference. Anyway, IF I let another dominican salon stylist do my hair, it will be a new one with LOTS of good references. I like the blowouts though:ohwell:

Yes lawd! I got an affirm relaxer last week and I. love. my. hair. Now I love it bone straight, otherwise it's puffy. It's been so easy to manage everyday I don't even hardly have to do anything to it. I'd been going about 6 weeks when I decided to go ahead and have them do it. I'd watched them do a few and was satisfied they'd do a good job and they did. Of course I go to the same person every week so she knows my hair. It's been growing and is completely different since I started going there.

And if I may ask...How much does she charge for a relaxer? What relaxers does she offer and will she get it bone straight if that's what I want? I like me some bone straight hair:D

Where do you go?

I go to a Dom Salon wayyyyyyyy up in Cobb County- Magrestiv Dominican Salon off of Chastain Meadows Parkway off I 575. I love those girls, there's only one I wouldn't let touch me with a 10 foot pole.

I get my hair done by Dominicans and they do a pretty good job. I am going to bring my own relaxer though next time like the other ladies suggested because I too feel theirs is just too strong. It sometimes leaves my hair looking like a limp noodle hehe
