Do You Do Things That Are Not Hair Board Approved....

I seriously think people are sleeping on the hair grease :yep:. Especially when it comes to sealing your ends.

I used to use grease on my scalp before I joined this thread, in fact I always thought that is what black people are supposed to do:ohwell:

In fact there were a lot of things I used to do that did not have an adverse afect on my hair and then there were things I used to do that didnt benefit my hair, like relax every 4 or 5 weeks:perplexed I just didnt know any better:nono:

I use heat frequently and on high temp/blowdry/flatiron
Sulfate poo's followed by Elucence poo
I use conditioners with cones
I brush my hair all the time

How long is ur hair if u dont mind me asking, and have u sacrificed length by doing so? What do u consider frequently? Every day, every week? Do tell! Thanks

-I have used heat throughout my transition (I'm in braids now, but for the first 10 months I was heating it up)
-I go to the salon (they specialize in natural/transitioning hair) weekly for a blow dry/flat iron
-I never do protein treatments
-I use a sulfate shampoo and a cone-based conditioner every time I shampoo
-I use Keracare Jojoba oil moisturizer sometimes- it has mineral oil and petrolatum in it

The only thing I plan to change really is cutting back on heat; I am experimenting now with braids. But honestly, there were times I was following all the board approved methods (ie.no heat, air drying, baggying, etc) and it didn't really make a difference in my hair or sometimes just made it worse.

I....am a grease junkie. I use Liv by Summit every flippin chance I get and my hair LOVES IT!!! Sue me dangit.

Ok,and now my confessional
I can go 4 wks between washes. Not often but I do. (Hate washing my hair sometimes. so difficult to get it straight when i do it myself and if my hair isn't straight, it's breaking) Also don't tie up my hair and night. (i do intend to do this more regular however) I don't always seal after moisturizing. And don't moisturize as frequently as I should. In fact, I'm setting here now, with a head full of straw. (shameful!!!)

I'm pretty good at being LHCF safe... I do use grease on the occasion, but not often.... one of my biggest flaws is my detangling method. I detangle my hair after my hair has been shampooed and towel dried :look: before I apply conditioner... that's my worst anyway :lachen:

I wear my hair out every single day! The only time I put it up is when I go to bed and I am creeping up on WL.

I DC three times a week all day.

I soak my hair with oils and regular conditioner.

LOVE LOVE sulfate shampoos.

I'm Heat training my hair; so I blowdry or flat iron my hair about twice a week.

I recently started putting Vaseline on my ends.

I use MT/OCT straight up!

I realize hair care isn't that complicated.

I use sulfate shampoos, cones, hardly ever DC, clarified once, blow dry after every wash, oil my scalp, flat iron using an iron without a thermostat, probably use wayyyy too much product on my hair, protein/moisture balance who?, seal what?, etc...
I'm sure there's more...

But I am learning, and taking notes to see what works for me and what doesn't.

i detangle with a fine tooth comb...in the shower w/con...my hair is very fine, so it works for me, but don't try it at home folks! lol.

I grease my scalp with natures blessing hair grease and use always castor oil or indian hemp on my hair. My hair loves grease. I tried the no greasing scalp thing boy oh boy did i regret it. I shed so much hair during that 2 week trial. Thankfully I have thick hair. I use a soft bristle brush to "brush in" my gel and castor oil for my edges in the morning for my buns. My edges will not lay down without my brush.

An old friend of mine uses this and she has beautiful hair. I thought about getting some, but I was cutting mineral oil out of my regimen at the time.

My biggest "not hair board approved" action is tearing off my single strand knots. I think it's more of a nervous habit/frustration than something that really works well. :ohwell:

I really like this post! I'm not the only human one here! Sometimes I feel like the only one who cannot commit 24/7 to their hair and regimen and doing everything so PERFECTLY. I've often read some peoples regimens and thought to myself NO WAY she REALLY does all that.

With that said I...

*lose my satin cap at least three times a week so I just sleep without one on a cotton pillowcase

*usually only moisturize and seal after i co-wash, so only 2x weekly

*have never done a protein treatment

*dust my ends when I know I need to chop off a good 2 inches

*don't get caught up reading labels and looking at ingredients, if it works for me I don't care what's in it!

*wash and go in the winter constantly. I don't know if this is bad or not, but for some reason when I do it I feel like I'm doing something wrong.

 Nice to know I'm not the only rebel here

I love hair spray
Use a boar bristle brush
Hair loves cones
Use a light hair oil on my scalp daily
Have yet to clarify
Use a light protien weekly
Just said "no" to co-washing

When I am in my micro twist (which will be often since school starts next monday), I don't moisturize or wash till I take them down:look:...i keep them in for 4 weeks:look:

:blush:ok I'm embarrassed now

Ok. Just don't tell anyone.

I seal the entire length of my braids with about 4 products until the hair is wet.

Then I baggy 24/7.

I change the baggy twice a week when I pre-poo/shampoo/ and d/c with heat.

I trim my ends once a week. I snip the end of each braid.

As a result I have none of the following:

1. split ends

2 knots

3. no dryness problems

My hair is growing at a good rate and I am retaining my growth.
