Do wool scarves really cause hair breakage?

I've heard wearing wool scarves causes breakage. What's your experience?

I don't wear wool scarves, but any fabric like that rubbing against your hair can suck the moisture out of it and promote breakage. I know a lot of people put on satin caps before wearing hats and scarves. You have to be careful in the wintertime.
