I think it depends on the blend of the wool. Some wool is very soft, while others can be kindof abrasive. I for the most part tie my hair down with a silk or satin scarf before putting on any hats.
Yes I believe it to be true. I think it is better to be safe than sorry and keep lining those wool hats. Also if you wear a wool coat, don't forget your silk scarf around the collar.
Yes Kapri, I always wear a silk scarf around my neck...I just wish that I could find a silk scully that I could put on, rather than having to make a liner for each hat. I tried the scarf under the hat method, but some hats are just not designed to wear anything underneath, ya know?
I wear hats 95% of the time when I'm outdoors all year-round (a Southern thing I guess- got it from Grammy). I agree, wool hats and hair are a bad combo. I've only worn silk-lined hats, but I'll have to try the scarf method.
Simplycee, if you put your bun at the very nape of your neck, as low as it can go, you can still wear just about any hat. I always do this and it works just fine.
Idea... maybe we should post some hat photos in our respective albums to give eachother ideas? I'm curious of how the scarf works under the hat- does it show?
SG
SG, I only wear scarves under beret, news boy type hats. Depending on how wide the hat is, the scarf doesn't show, but the knot shows, which is why I'm on a search for a silk skully. I may end up making my own.

I wear a silk scarf under my hats too. In previous winters would leave my hair wrapped with a silk scarf, put on my hat and unwrap when I got to work.
Now that I'm on the bun challenge I have to find another way to do this. My bun doesn't fit under my hat.
[/ QUOTE ] buy different types of hats. That is what I'm going to do this year.
I guess I'm the only one who has not had a problem with hats. I wear hats every winter because I live in a cold country. My hair has never become dry or broken because of it.
