I know it's late but, thank you adrienne for saying that about overcoming genetics because everytime I read that on one of these boards, I cringe. Most of the women in my family don't have extremely long hair but then again, I don't think that anyone knew how to take care of it. I really think that's the key. We were all hot-comb queens. In the past few months my hair has grown alot. It usually would break off after about 4" because of perming every two to three weeks, putting a blazing hot curling iron on my hair to make it even straighter, and before I came to this board I can count the number of times I've deep conditioned on one hand and I'm 24!!!!!. Let alone the point of a protein treatment. I can't believe I had the nerve to wonder why my hair never grew( my head is hanging in shame) Having said all of that
The top 4 things that have worked for me are
1. Not using heat at all
2. Rinsing or or doing conditioner washes every three days
3. Deep Conditioning every week and Protien Conditioners every couple of weeks
4. Last but definitely not least, keeping my ends moisturized
Good Luck Ladies!!!!!
