I recently heard on an experience that a natural had in a Domincan salon here in Atlanta. She basically said that they were complaining and didn't want to do her hair. I have heard the same thing before, but I have only heard of it in Atlanta.

Basically, I am figuring since there are more people in NYC, there are more naturals and therefore more naturals going to Dominican salons in NYC, that they are most likely used to dealing with natural hair...

Am I correct?

Have any naturals had any issues at the Dominican salons in NYC?

not at the place i go (rarely now) my stylist does a lot of naturals...and a lot of parents bring their kids to her..

I'm still too scared to get a blowout, I'm just curious if there are differences between NYC and ATL (other than the obvious)

A few natural men frequent the salon that I go to and they get a wash and blow out with no complaints or refusals from the stylists.

Ineedhair, what salon do you go to? I want to get a a blowout sometime in august, in the next couple weeks, and the dominican salons by me are garbage. I'm a bronxite too, so let me know.

I go to Ivey's on 163rd and prospect and Morris Salon on 163rd and Morris Avenue. That one is brand new.

The ones I go to are definitely natural hair friendly. I bring my mom and sister all the time. Also, I've seen so many little girls with natural BSL 4a/4b hair get blowouts. In addition, since my texturized hair is extremely thick, I've had many Dominican stylists mistake my hair for natural. Actually, at Mirror Image, they think I'm natural now (because went I went a couple of years ago, my hair was so thin) and they take extra special care of my hair because they say I got it healthy again .

Really? This person is fluent in Spanish and she heard them talking about her... They didnt say it outright, or refuse her outright, they didnt know she could speak Espanol!
