If so at what length do they start charging extra...

Re: Do Stylist really charge extra if it\'s Long?

Yes it is true. I would call hair salons and ask them how much for a certain style or even hair color, and they always say it depends on the hair length and they would say the longer, the higher the cost.

Re: Do Stylist really charge extra if it\'s Long?

i can see why they charge more for things like shampoos, treatments and colour but not retouches. a long haired person would have the same new growth as a short haired person so they would be using the same amount of relaxer.

Re: Do Stylist really charge extra if it\'s Long?

True but sometimes longer hair means more detangling/neutralizer/neutralizing reconstructing conditioner.

LOL for me the hardest part of a retouch is separating the hair so the relaxer can be applied-the longer the hair is the more difficult this process is.

Re: Do Stylist really charge extra if it\'s Long?

they sure do. i went to two different salons and asked them how much it would cost for a wash and set. they told me to let my hair down and said it'll cost extra(35) b/c of my length.

Re: Do Stylist really charge extra if it\'s Long?

yep they do. It takes a lot more time to blow out style longer length hair

Re: Do Stylist really charge extra if it\'s Long?

With that in mind, you'd think salons/stylists would go to greater lengths in keeping our hair healthy and trying to grow it "longer" so they can reap the real benefits ($$$)

Re: Do Stylist really charge extra if it\'s Long?

oh, not extra. it's 25 for wash and set but for me it would have been 35.

Re: Do Stylist really charge extra if it\'s Long?

Funny thing is i actually believe that they believe that they r keeping our hair healthy

Re: Do Stylist really charge extra if it\'s Long?

Hmmm, that's a thought. Maybe I should challenge them - "if you can grow my hair to ___ (showing them my bra strap) then I will pay you $50! for a wash and set" You think they would be up for that challenge? I bet you they'd listen to every demand then..(no fine tooth combs, warm blowdryers for roller sets, taking time to untangle and combthrough, ONLY the new growth, and NO unnecessary waiting!)

A long time ago, a salon TRIED to charge me extra for a relaxer touch-up. I told the manager, I didn't think it should cost me extra because the stylist would only be relaxing the new growth. She charged me the regular price.

Re: Do Stylist really charge extra if it\'s Long?

I know in the Bay Area you have stylists that charge extra for thick or long hair, even for a touch-up. I was charged $15 extra because she had to use 3 relaxer kits to touch up the new growth!

I never went to her again after that.
