My hair is close to BSL. However, my kitchens have always been about an inch long. Anyone else have this issue?

I discovered that relaxers DESTROY my kitchen. So I decided that I would either relax it once a year or not at all. I haven't decided yet. But I know I aint relaxing I haven't relaxed it since Feb, and have no intentions upon relaxing it in Aug/Sept.

Yes Kitches do grow.
Maybe you have a different texture at your kitchen and/or the relaxing and constant rubbing against collars keeps breaking the ends off.
I stopped relaxing my nape and I have alot of ng.:)

What part of the hair is the kitchen? im so lost lol

The "kitchen" is the hair on the back of the neck. For some people, it looks like BBs.

VERY good point!!! My nape is a nice length. It is just the little hairs right at the top of my neck. They may rub against clothes and break a lot.

Hmm, not as of yet. My kitchen is the same length as the rest of the hair in that area; about APL.

Since going natural my kitchen is finally growing long and strong, it could not take relaxers. I was just thinking the other day how I can hardly tell the difference between my kitchen and the rest of my hair because it is finally catching up with the rest of my hair. Going natural is the only thing that worked for that part of my hair, this is the longest and strongest it has been in almost 30 years.

:lachen: :lachen: :lachen: That is so funny to me! I haven't heard that in a long time.

But, I have the same problem you do. I am working to get to APL and my nape was jacked. I started adding my relaxer to this area last (thanks to the Board) and only leave it on a short time. I baby this area and keep it well moisturized. This has definitely helped and it has started growing.

Yep, kitchens do grow! Since transitioning and doing the BC, my nape/kitchen area has really grown. When my hair was relaxed, my kitchen area was always short.

I think that in order to grow your kitchen area with relaxed hair, you should stretch your relaxers more. Make sure that you baby that area and try not to put too much stress on it. Keep it moisturized so that it doesn't break. Don't leave the relaxer on long for that area...maybe just a couple minutes would do.

I only do the back of my hair once a year... I've been doing this for three years and its longer now

My nape is as long as the rest of my hair, about BSL. I relax that area second-to-last (hairline is last). I'm a 4b so I know all about BBs.

Same here... I do have a little breakage around the very edge in the back though. :ohwell:

Well, it depends on your budget, who you are hiring, what type of upgrades you desire....

Oh wait! Not that kitchen :lachen: I cracks myself up sometime...

Amazingly, unlike never before, my kitchen is the longest section of my hair! Say what!!!????

Little BBs..:lachen: :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:Yeah, that describes them. Mine usually get to be only about 4 to 5 inches long if I go for a while w/o a tape up, which is what I usually do.

I relax that section only evry other relaxer and I relax it last also. Doing it this way has helped me retain lots of growth.

My kitchen grows at snail speed, however I have noticed that when I trim it, it grows in thicker. It'll never catch up with the rest of my hair growth, I'm convinced of that, however it does manage to come in thicker with trims and gets to like index finger length which is good for me, because when I want to wear it up or in a ponytail most of the time it will stay in there

You are crazy:lachen: :lachen: . Same here for me, even when I was relaxed my nape was always the longest part of my hair. I didn't know that people still used that term, "Kitchen" when referring to the nape area.:)

Yep they sure do. My problem is dryness. I wear alot of shirts sans collars (so I kind of wrote that off....) Once I started moisturizing (s-curl and a light oil) it made alot of difference. It's now catching up with the rest of my hair. :D yay!

Yes they do. Blame it on the relaxer...if you have one. Before I went natural my kitchen always stayed short. Its been 4 yrs since I went natural, and its now the longest section of my hair. I think it has to do with the fact that the relaxer is applied first to your kitchen before the rest of the hair. HTH :)

My kitchen is so short, it is sending me crazy. I am not going to relax it with my next relaxer. I have to grow back this area. And yes it grows but the relaxed ends break right off everytime. Unbelievable:nono:

Absolutely!!!!! My kitchen used to be no more than 1" long...after starting my journey its the longest part of my hair...

For me also, my kitchen will grow; however, my crown will not move.

That was the same for me, e.g. my kitchen would be 8 inches and the rest of my hair would be 6 inches. The hair there is also finer...

I am so glad to hear you ladies say that your kitchens grew once you stopped relaxing. My nape area aboslutely refuses to grow. Most of my hair is about BSL, but my pathetic lil' kitchen is only 1.5 inches at most. However, I'm in the process of transitioning, so hopefully mine will finally start to grow.

Good Question!!! Mine has always been the shortest part of my hair. I've started to moisturize it more often now so hopefully it'll start to take off. But I've always wondered how people's nape can grow to be as long as the rest of their hair.
