Discipling A Parent

Here's my personal testimony on the topic

Don't push them and don't throw Jesus down their throat. Leave your life in Jesus.

My dad was the type that did the opposite of what you wanted him to do. He went to church as a youth but as an adult, he did everything that he was big and bad enough to do and I was just like him. In fact, they use to say if you put me and daddy in a barrel and rolled us down a hill a SOB head would pop up every time. We cursed together, told people off together, smoked together and partied together and then I moved out of state and found Jesus. In the years to follow I lived my life for Christ and my dad would say " wow you don't curse like you use to, you don't drink like you use to, you stop smoking" and I would nod my head and keep living. Now when I talked to him about Christ he didn't want to hear it but my lifestyle change he noticed. About 5 years later my dad called me up and told me to sit down. I was like oh Lord what now and he said " I joined a church" all I could do is shout. So I say live your life and let your Light shine they will see it and want the same peace that you have. He had joined the men's choir and the usher board as well when he passed away.

When daddy died he was in a coma and I was at peace because I knew he has given his life to Christ and that he was in a good place. It may not come when you want but it will come

@GodsPromises, Praise The Lord! Thank you for sharing your beautiful testimony of how you let the light of Christ shine through you. This is a perfect example of being the change you want to see in others. May God bless you abundantly and may He continue to use you for His glory.

Thank you so much. Sometimes we think as Christians we have to talk talk talk Jesus and his goodness where all that is needed is living your life and letting Jesus live in you

My situation is different. My mother calls with questions and I answer them. She tells me what is going on with life, and I listen. It went from...

Mom talking until...
Me: Hold up. That's God, Mom.
Mom: It is?
Me: Yup (with explanation)
Mom: Oh, OK. (continues talking)

to...

Mom: (talking, then stops) Was that God?
Me: Yup, do you see why?
Mom: (explains)
We discuss a bit, and move on.

We have arguments here and there, but we get over it. She is just happy she has someone to talk to about God and I pray she gets the breakthroughs she needs.

@Sharpened, Praise God for teachable moments with your mom. She is willing to listen as you share and to ask questions along the way. This is the best bible student you could ever ask for. Keep praying and asking The Holy Spirit to direct your conversation and encourage your mom to read the Bible everyday (even if she tells you she doesn't understand what she is reading, encourage her to keep reading since the Holy Spirit will help her when she needs it). Keep up the good work and God bless you in your faithfulness to Him.

Thankfully, she reads Scripture every night before bed and seeks after the Father all day long. I would rather answer questions from the Bible than trying to work out what someone from a sermon has said.

The next step will be her trusting the Father to place those in need before her. She has to ask Him whether or not it is for her to help someone. When she does, she gets blessed; if not, trouble comes. I reckon this is a part of her learning spiritual discernment.

She had a series of unfortunate events slam her all at once, and she sought the Lord continuously. He kept providing her solutions, even speaking to her twice. She was happy and thankful the Lord came through for her. *mental happy dance and praising Him*
