Different Brands, Same Company, Equal High-End/Low-End Hair Products?

I was just on L'Oreal's web site and noticed that their brand portfolio includes:

Biotherm
Garnier
Helena Rubenstein
Kerastase
Kiehl
Redken
Softsheen Carson

Could it be that the SAME product is simply being put into different bottles and different labels and sold at different prices at different stores? Could the salon brand be the same product that can be purchased at the local drug store?

What other companies have multiple products sold in different stores (high-end vs. low-end)?

I highly doubt its exactly the same. Similar but not the same.

Another example would be Kenra. Kenra==>Elucence==>Elasta QP

I knew about L'Oreal owning all those companies and I know that Estee Lauder and Unilever are also to big companies with a lot of brands under their label. Estee Lauder mostly owns skincare and fragrances, but they do own Aveda and Bumble and bumble. Unilever owns Alberto, Suave, and I think Nexxus. I really do think that the products are the same and that the real difference between the high and the low end is the packaging and fragrance or marketing.

I would just compare ingredients. It does make you wonder. L'oreal also owns Lancome--I've read that the ingredients for the facial moisturizers are practically the same--and sometimes the l'oreal store brands are slightly better.

it's very possible

loreal aslo owns mizani, i did notice that mizani sensitive scalp relaxer and the optimum care conditioner no lye relaxer has the exact same ingredients listed in the same order

i bet if you read and compare ingredients you will find more matches between the brands

we already know about these Kenra /Elasta qp/eluence crossovers, i bet there is more

Kenra moisture shampoo = Elasta Shampoo for relaxed hair

Kenra Color Maintance Conditioner = Elasta Intense Conditioner

Kenra Daily Provision = Elasta H Two

Elasta breakage control = elucence Extended Moisture Repair Treatment

... the plot thickens, just what are these companies up to? :scratchch

HMMM.. I wonder what is compared to the KeraCare brand. Anyone knows? If not I will do some research and find out what is similar to the Humecto and leav-in. These are my two favorite products.

Good question...but unfortunately, I dont think there is one

It's all a gimmick if you ask me. Just like ethnic vs. non-ethnic products. There are only so many ways you can mix and match ingredients, evntually some formulations will overlap.

This is supposedly one of the beauty industry's big "secrets" according to my friend who works in the marketing dept. at Proline (owned by Alberto Culver) But of course, we at LHCF have already figured this out, so she wasn't telling me anything new.

I agree with the poster that said check the ingredients. That's the only way to know which products are really clones.

Thanks for the update on this....I dont feel so bad about walking pass the $20 shampoos and picking up the $3.99 ones. The only thing is they all have parabens though...:-(

Exactly
Before I found NTM. I use to LOVE loreal vive shampoos and conditioners. Same as the Kerastase line
