Ladies, did you take the scissors to your head yourself?

Get your hair layered? Cut into a bob? Some other style?

I'm trying to avoid looking like Sideshow Bob from the Simpsons, or having as one LHCF Sista wrote "the soul glo mullet" :lachen::lachen:!

TIA!

I didn't, but if you want to avoid that, you're going to have to cut the back shorter than the front. If you just cut off relaxed ends only, your hair will be heavily layered and you will likely reach a mullet point. You'll have to cut off some of the new natural hair in the back to even it out more.

I just cut mine myself... no style or layers!

ETA: I am sorry I thought you were asking did we try to cut our hair in layers or a specific style. I didnt... but my hair was uneven like the other ladies! :yep:

I cut it myself. It's very uneven and no way could I straighten it and wear it out. I plan on wearing braids for 12 months then going to get it cut as even as I can.

Like Mwedzi said, I just cut off the relaxed ends and ended up with layers. I like them right now, so it's not a concern. I may grow them out later.

Well, I shaved down to a fade:

-My nape promptly grew in as fast as it could

-The top of my head grew in normally, and thick

-My little edges were damaged and trying as hard as they can to catch up.

You can't tell in my Siggie, but if I pick everything out, and turn to the side:

I also have a BC mullet

It'll grow out over time. My hair shrinks up all over anyway, not many people can tell.

I'm glad You posted the topic Diva Esq.:bighug:

It's good to know I'm not the only one rockin' the "soul glow".

I also shaved and I'm pleased to report my hair is growing
quickly and all the same length.

Re: Did you get a specific type of haircut for your BC? Trying to avoid the Sideshow

I cut off all the relaxed hair but since my sides were so short it came into a little style. However, when it grew out it was a little mullet so I had to be creative with the styles.

If you look at my avatar that is the what I had at the beginning of December from my BC. I started flipping the back up when it is straight because I am not ready to cut it, but it way too long to wear down. It is very layered now, but it really doesn't bother me. I'm gonna wait it out for now and besides you can't tell when it's curly so I don't care. I'm afraid to see how it will look when I take these braids down in February, lol.

Re: Did you get a specific type of haircut for your BC? Trying to avoid the Sideshow

I just cut the relaxed ends, it was very short i did not noticed any difference. Now the front is shorter but anybody can tell while is curly. When i attemped to straighten it last month it was a whole mess, i could not wear it down ...

Re: Did you get a specific type of haircut for your BC? Trying to avoid the Sideshow

Here's my two cents. I also bc to a fade. Its now month 4 and some change....anywhoo its pretty much growing in even, but shrinkage and different hair types makes it look a little funny if i dont shape or pat or comb certain parts.
You may have to cut more off the back or top, like another said if your going for an even cut, sometimes hair grows at different rates in different spots.

I think the best way to know is cut off the relaxed ends, see how it looks and go from there, straightening will be another story.

Nope I just chopped it all off myself. It appeared to be the same length all over.

Re: Did you get a specific type of haircut for your BC? Trying to avoid the Sideshow

Braider did the chop. Twists followed by chop of the relaxed hair. Did not see my fro for two weeks afterward...mostly equal on all sides..liked it.

Re: Did you get a specific type of haircut for your BC? Trying to avoid the Sideshow

I thought I was the only one that had the Sideshow Bob hair, at least, that's what my husband calls it.

Re: Did you get a specific type of haircut for your BC? Trying to avoid the Sideshow

When I bc'd a few years back...I had to cut the back of my hair every three weeks or so until the front and sides caught up. It didn't help that my texture is looser/hangs more in my nape!

Re: Did you get a specific type of haircut for your BC? Trying to avoid the Sideshow

I cut it myself & I know its a mess. I've been cutting it here & there for the past year, so I figured I could off the rest of my relaxed ends. It wasn't that easy though. Its been two weeks since my bc & I still find straight ends sticking up here & there. I snip them right off with no regard to if its even with the rest of my hair or not. I don't plan to wear it straight anytime soon & once I get more length, I will get it evened out. When I wear my hair out now, I can pack the sides & back & give myself some height in the top & front & pull off a cute style.
