Did you ever accidently insult someone while trying to give them a hair tip?

I was just thinking about the time I accidentally insulted my friend lol (she wasn't really mad though)

What happened was she was asking me if she should get a relaxer and I was just like if you really want to go for it. Then she said she was afraid something was going to happen to her hair, don't remember what, but I told her that never happened to me. Her reply was yeah but you got that good hair. I told her I don't have "good" hair my hair is just like yours lol. She was like, so what you tryna say?!?!:lachen: hahaha then I had to explain to her that if she thinks my hair is good then she must think hers is bad and really it's the same.

Has this ever happened to you?

Umm, yeah. This has happened on many occasions. Well first of all I hate it when people are delusional. I did 2-strand twists in my sisters hair one time. My sister has long, thick, naturally shiny hair, so she usually gets a lot of compliments. People with short, dry, thin, damaged hair at my church will always come up to me and say "can you make my hair look like your sisters?". I just look at them and say "no, you would have to cut all your hair off and grow it out from scratch".

LOL at the thread title. I don't think I have ever insulted someone, but I am always afraid to start giving hair tips because that's what I think will somehow happen. I always want to respond to hair compliments with a mini regimen and be like, "so you need to stop using so much heat/letting your hair brush up against that coat, etc. so it won't look like that...." but instead I'm just, like, "thanks :look:"

Me too I don't want to seem like a know-it-all. And I also feel rude when people say "Wow your hair is long" and I just smile because I don't know what to say. I'm always like well why should I say thank you, your stating the obvious, that's like telling me my name is Dani. hahaha idk if it's rude or not.

yea but I its usually not an accident....

Funny story OP!
Not that i can think of but people have attempted to insult me (or insult my intelligence) by trying to give me unsolicited hair advice. This typically occurs when someone tells me what I should be doing to my hair but their hair is jacked up! When they tell me what kinda products I should be using or that I should change my practices I look at their hair and ask "so how is that working for you because from where im sitting it looks bad!"

I never give hair advice because I can't figure out how to say it without it sounding like an insult. I have a 15 year old cousin who I desperately want to help with her hair, but I don't know how to approach her without hurting her feelings. I can't figure out how to tell someone how I can help them with their hair without mentioning what is wrong. I even think just purchasing products for her will hurt her feelings.

I was also in a meeting today and a woman's ends were just dry and sad, it was so obvious that she wears her hair down EVERY DAY. I wanted to tell her so badly about moisturizing and sealing, but I couldn't figure out a way to say it without saying the words "your ends are very dry."

:lachen: sounds like the kind of thing that would happen to me. luckily, i haven't accidentally insulted someone about hair so i'm still in the green....for now

A day, I saw a little girl with maybe a for245daysnotdetangled hair.. i dunno she was so cute but her hair looked like sangoku with only two parts hard like cardboard..
I asked to the white women who was with the little black girl, "is it your kid? if you want I can give you a website with some nice advices for afro hair, how to care for it, how to detangling it gently..." she smiled to me, but I think I had insult her, maybe she thought" what does she want to mean?? that I'm white so I can not care properly for african hair??"
Yes, I thought that myself, and afterthat I felt embarrassed to talk to the lady :s
whatever I hope she checked the websites I recommended to her, even if I felt like insulting her, because it was a shame to let a girl going out like that :nono:

Maybe you should tell her that she would look so nice with long hair and that she should grow it out. Then she might ask you how and you could give her the advice she needs . Or maybe a Christmas basket full hair stuff, it probably won't hurt her feelings since it's a present and not out of the blue.

There's this little girl that lives around my way whose hair is like that too, and as soon as my mom mentioned doing her hair for her she looked like she was about to cry because she doesn't like getting her hair done.

inever insult unless im being attacked:look:

everytime my friend trys to suggest i invest in some 'better' hair products/hairstyles.. iglance at her short shriveled hair and ask: "oh. is that what.. you use/do?:lachen::lachen::perplexed

she never catches on:lol:

I didn't say some thing to accidentally insult someone, I DID something ... it was horrible. Deep breath. Here it goes.

I was talking to this lady, the hiring person, for a volunteer position. As she was talking to me, she kept glancing at my hair, in way that I assumed to be admiringly.

I wanted to convey to her that her hair was lovely. No need to look at mine in such a way. I hadn't actually seen her hair- yet.
So what did I do?

I pushed back her wig about an inch back past her hairline. Without warning or her permission.

She had her hair in little braids and it was healthy and pretty. I had the nerve to say, "See, I knew you had beautiful hair." What a fool I was.

It doesn't matter what my intent was. I was straight up wrong for that. Had she slapped me, she would not have been out of her rights.

Oh, I didn't get the job, either. Are you surprised? She had him call me to say that the position was no longer available.

Sigh...glad to finally get that one off my chest.

OMG. you're bold.
what did she do/say?

She just pushed her wig back. I wasn't bold. I was an ignorant fool who acted without thinking or using common sense.

Yes.
My friend was complimenting me on my hair....and I wanted to give one back.
I brilliantly came up with "Your hairs not that sh......short."

...
I had already started, so naturally, I had to finish.

*kanyeshrug* I even had the audacity to run my fingers through it after I finished. And normally, I'm pretty good at talking myself outta things...but this situation...eh. Not so much.
This happened moments ago, btw. I'm still looking at her. Smh.
