Did anyone try to attend Taren916's event in NYC?

Can't blame her for being mad. Can you imagine if she had travelled from another state?

Hope Taren addresses this

India here, Im a Native New Yorker and you have to be way ahead of the game/event. I was the 6th person in line. I was waiting for "SistaWithRealHair" While the event was in progress, I was able to ask a brother "Stanford" to look out for her. She was standing in line "Vlogging" as her name was called out. Anyway, once we got together it was fun, unity, and a great time. Check out her YT. Ladies, my voice, Oh Lord, I had know idea it was so so high. (Like Rose Perez) :-) But, you'll see from video we had a ball, despite all the other stuff around us. OK!

Okay, I just watched this whole video and although the vlogger had good points, the fact that Taren came outside of the event to apologize, take pictures and give out a few goodie bags seems like enough to me. I mean...she apologized, what else could she do? The vlogger is asking for an apology, but she said Taren already did come out and apologize to them in person...the vlogger should probably just let it go. It was a free event, so no - admittance was not guaranteed, even with an RSVP. It's like when you get free tickets to a movie screening - you still have to get there super early because you're not guaranteed a seat.

On the plus side, it sounds like Taren is gaining a passionate following of "fans" that REALLY wanted to meet her. I wish her the best of luck with her future events.

ETA: I did want to add that Taren could have specified that admittance was not guaranteed and that basically would have solved the problem. People would still be mad, but at least they would have known ahead of time...

i've been to events at dickey's salon and its small up in there. didn't even try to go to this one because i'm seriously done with natural hair events in NY for awhile. I want NY to get on the scale of ATL's grand natural event. I think we have enough naturals here to have a damn convention. lol.

ok cool. I will definiteky look it up. I can never get enough moisture in my life. I love watching sistawithrealhair. I joined the 6months growth challenge, are you in?

I RSVP'd the day she posted the video, but I never received a confirmation. A few days prior to the event Taren posted on her fb page that you should get to the event early. A few of us responded that we RSVP'd but didn't revive a confirmation. Since she was telling people to get there early, that was enough for me to know that I should stay my arse home because I didn't want to go there only to be told I couldn't get in.

Why did she take off work and go stand in the cold to see a regular *** person?

I was like . I aint missing work for an event. If so, I better be getting my hair done and a huge goodie bag!

People taking pictures, people screaming and cryin over a Yter's...:nono: I really need to get on YT and get a fan club:lol:

I saw the event sign up somewhere, thought about signing up(imagined the big *** crowd outside the building) then said 'nahhh I'll sit this one out.':look:

renting spaces in nyc to accomdate large groups of people are every expensive, which would cut into one profit margin plus the decor, snacks, etc. large spaces in nyc are also harder to come by cause they would likely have to rented/secured 9-12 months in advance plus a 50% or more deposit.

I am not understanding the RSVP thing and people did not get in. Did alot of people just show up that didn't RSVP and they were allowed in? I would of thought you would have to have a printed ticket or something to show at the door for verification. And telling people that RSVP'd to get there early is not cool. That is pretty much letting you know that your chances of getting in might be a little sketchy.

*Frisky*

ITA.....when folks rsvp, its supposed to guarantee you getting in. Taren should have had a limited amount of tix based on the occupancy level of the space via fire codes. I'm not sure what the price was for tix, but this makes me feel that she and the others organizing this event were being greedy and delusional. Even small spaces in NYC can be 10-15k not even including security, DJs, insurance, food/staff, etc. She should have gotten a space to hold 500+ plus ppl and did the math to figure out how much to charge per tix and turn a profit. She could have charged $20-$50 per tix and had gift bags, food, and possibly alcohol. They could have Pre-sale priced tix, VIP tixs, and a small amount of at the door tix.

It's amaaaaazing to me how regular folks can become so popular/famous!
You must have had to be on the hair YT and blogs EARLY boy. How would someone new come on NOW? It looks like you have to be on your gear game and be somewhat attractive and voila many many following!
So amazed and jelly!

Well, you know, Taren has been on youtube for awhile and has quite the following. I really liked her videos in the early days because she had the same gripes and groans, was wishy washy about her hair, tried a lot of products, said what we all were thinking about hair, except she did it on youtube and it was very interesting and fun to watch. All folks are regular folks until "we" make them special. We make the celebrities. All the talent and beauty in the world won't matter if "we" don't recognize it. Someone new could fit in, all they have to do is be fun, be interesting, speak on what we're thinking and we'll give them celebrity (in this case Youtube ) status, too.

:yep:. She took off work for it and ermmmmmm......I wouldn't have done all that, but whatevers clever *shrugs*. However, I'm going to agree with her on the fact that Taren should have been a bit more prepared for the turn out.NOW! That apology thing is crazy to me. Taren did apologize and even stood in the cold and mingled with these women. I really didn't get that part at all :perplexed.

I'm not giving up 9 minutes of my life for this.

It was FREE and for anything FREE in NYC you are not guaranteed to get in. There are 9 million people in this city. If there was a fee charged, then fine, those people should get in but a FREE event is not something anyone should considered guaranteed. Hair Rules is a small space. I've had my hair done there and presuming the info in this thread is accurate, that space cannot even hold many people. Taking off work to go meet Taren seems strange. I mean, who does that?

I saw the video in the OP and I also watched the "SistaWithRealHair" footage of it and feel split.

1. RSVP to me truly means RSVP, répondez s'il vous plaît. If I RSVP, I expect to get into the event, free or fee. Having an attendance confirmation but still having to wait outside and not get in is wrong IMO.

2. Though the event sounds like a lot of fun, I don't think I would have taken time off of work just to see Taren. Taren and her fans made her into a celebrity, but its not that serious (for me). I don't know if its Taren herself or the natural hair phenomenon, but I just don't see what the big deal is/was.

3. Taren did go out to greet her fans and seemed apologetic. The gift bags were a nice gesture and I knew it would be unrealistic for her to have enough to give to everyone in line. Where do you draw the line? I figured the people who were in front who got the bags were waiting the longest.

If it is her first event I hope she takes from this experience and learn from her mistakes. It was a lil disorganized but we live and learn.
