Did anyone see this about WEN Cleansing Conditioner?

I did not see it, but....a few years back I was Hauling WEN like nobody's bizness, and happened upon several reviews stating this on various forums, which prompted me to list ALL that I had hauled on the Exchange Forum.

People were complaining about massive hair loss and some said it was the Menthol etc.....

After reading pages & pages of negative reviews with a similar story (as posted above), I felt like I would probably be one of the one's this would happen to, so I decided not to use it.

I didn't want to chance it.

And quickly made those Sales.

There are, however, folks that have been using it for Years w/o incident.
 
People have complained about hair thinning, but I think prolong use of this product and not clarifying will cause follicle buildup, causing thinning and hairloss. I'm going to read the article now.

I stopped using WEN because I noticed way too many strands leaving during wash day. My mom tried to convince me that they were just shed hairs but it was just too much for my liking. :nono: I have thankfully not experienced the bald spots though and feel really bad for the women that have. :sad: It's crazy because it felt so good and tingly and my hair was so soft after but my hair catcher in the shower was super full and that just wasn't normal. :perplexed

ETA: I also still used shampoo during the time I was using WEN because Eco Styler and Care Free Curl Gold buildup was no joke.

Yes, it was on our local news the other night.

I've never had any problems with WEN, but I can't support a company that puts out a product like this - and I LOVE WEN! I also clarify weekly, so I don't know if that makes a difference. However, all of the advertisements for this product claim you can dump your shampoo and only use this product.

These women are using the product AS DIRECTED and this is what happens. :nono:

WEN won't get anymore of my money. I'm on the hunt for another cowashing conditioner.....
 
damn i use WEN faithfully..but i may lay off it just to see if my hair thrives more without it..smdhhh WENNNNNNNN i heart you but listen!!!!:look:

I knoooooooowwwwww! I'll miss all the new scents and flavors. My hair had unbelievable bounce and shiiiiiiinnnnneeee! :cry:

But WEN is officially off my hair plan. I'm using up what I have and that's it. Funny thing is that I only use it once a week, so I probably have enough WEN to last a good 8-9 months. :look:
 
Wow... My hair has been thining. I don't know if it is the WEN. But I stopped using it because I wasn't getting the same benefits as others. Did anyone say if the damages are reversible?
 
I also suspect follicle build-up. It happened to me. I was losing hair by the handfuls, due to build-up. This would happen with any co-wash so it's not just Wen. You HAVE to use a sulfate shampoo occasionally to properly clean scalp and remove build-up.
 
I bought Wen thinking I could be Alyssa Milano in the commecials and only used this to wash my hair, I thought I was ill so much hair began to fall out. I immediately stopped using and did some acv rinses and black tea rinses. I just thought it was because my hair was used to so much TLC, guess not. I learned an important lesson on bandwagons and if it aint broke don't fix it.
 
I used Wen only 3 times. From the very first time i used it i noticed clumps of my hair on the sides of the tub as i rinsed. I thought it was extra shedding of dead hairs. i even asked some the ladies on here in the wen thread but no one said that they had experienced extra shedding. I just listened to my hair and stopped cuz i knew something just wasnt right. A good while after i googled wen and shedding i stumbled upon a YouTube video of a white woman with long hair showing large clumps of hair in the sink and she was speaking to customer service on the phone (i think they refunded her money). Then i seen other black women complain that it took a while before they noticed that their hair was thinning out. Im sooooooo happy i stopped using wen. Someone on here suggested that maybe its the menthol. Everyone's hair is different, some products may work well for some and not for others But im like wow if you see your hair falling out in clumps why continue to use it until you have a big bald spot? Im just saying. But that is messed up.
 
I knew it would just my Luck and I would be one of the ones that ended up a Statistic.:lol:...:look:

So, I let all of it go quickly, before I was tempted to crack open one and try it out.:ohwell:
 
IDareT'sHair, I also remember the hair loss claims a few years back....WEN didn't work for me but the hair loss clams were more reason to not even bother trying to make it work.
 
I just saw it on my FB timeline. I haven't been using WEN exclusively but I have been using if for over a year, and I have thinning in the front behind my widows peak, and breaking edges. I have never had these issues before. I was thinking I had some type of iron deficiency to cause this. I did have a lot of shedding while washing bug I've been transitioning for two years so put it down to hair breakage.

This is very alarming. I just got a new bottle of WEN in my car...2 more I haven't opened. I used lavender and original.

I would more than likely be the very one who ended up snatched completely bald behind some mess.:burning:

It ended up on the Exchange for all the WEN Heads with the Quickness.

So will this also happen of using sulfate free poos like Keracare Hydrating shampoo (think that's what it's called)? I've been doing a BKT every 4 months or so, and then only Shampoo with that or WEN. I swear if it ain't one thing it's another...

Keen, as per Komaza, buildup on the scalp is not healthy which is why they are not supporters of cowashing so you may be on to something.
 
I'm surprised it took this long. I always knew WEN was bad news. From the time it first came out, I was hypnotized by the infomercials. I was convinced and wanted to try it out. I went searching on the internet for reviews and there multiple reports from different websites about women's horrific experiences with it losing hair and shedding. On Consumer Affairs, it has a current rating of 2.25 out of 287 reviews. ALL negative. WEN by Chaz Dean Reviews.

There was also a class action lawsuit filed last year on Chaz Dean for this product and on the lawsuit website, there are currently over 500 comments about women that experienced damaged hair from it and also want to be a part of it. I definitely lost hair using Wen. It was scary to see clumps coming out in the shower. It cured me of any desire to cowash. I now just use a gentle shampoo. It was so bad I ended up having to cut my hair off.
 
Most reviews were bad that I saw, I used it because it was a gift and I'm pretty sure my hair would be crap if I kept using it. It made my hair feel weird. It was always "crispy" after lol
 
I stopped my autoship last fall (and still have three full bottles). I actually joined the board in the first place because of issues stemming from using Wen, but I started clarifying occasionally and using protein and all that stopped.

So I didn't stop using it for hair reasons, I just figured black companies should be getting my money. :look:

This is eye opening......i co wash mostly but once a week or so i need to shampoo. i feel like my scalp needs it. i try to listen to my hair. i can't believe people are losing hair from this stuff.
 
I was a big supporter of co washing until I started my trichology course. Seeing the scalp and skin under microscope has changed the way I look at haircare. Build up on the scalp is no joke and can lead to serious hair loss. Ladies I also encourage you to get into the habit of exfoliating the scalp .
 
I've never supported co-washing. We would never cleanse our skin with lotion/moisturizer so why do it in our scalps? The scalp is just an extension of the face, it functions just like skin everywhere else.

My shampoo has one sulfate (Yes to Carrots) a soup of them is really not needed. Diluting the shampoo with water (per use, not in the bottle it comes in) is also an option, which is what I do. But I'll never understand co-washing only or adding oils and such to shampoo. I can't wait until the natural hair community stops touting this and teaching newbies harmful methods.
