Did Anyone Have Long Hair and Chopped it Off?

It was very hard for me, but I had to chop because I needed to grow my natural hair out. My goal was to get it back long and healthy in a natural state. How did you feel after chopping it off? :nono: I was hesitant at first and glad in the end. In this video, I am sharing my first time chopping off my hair ever. Maybe this can help some ladies get over their fears of not having long hair. I am here to say that it can grow back, because mine is still doing so. Peace

Hello! I watched most of your videos. I have long relaxed hair and plan to do a long transition. I'm enjoying the thickness of my transitioning hair. I'm 7 months post.

I doubt I'll have the courage to rock super short hair but that is me. 1 change at a time.

You have GORGEOUS hair by the way!

I've had very long hair, very short hair and in between. My best was at the long stage so nah I don't see myself chopping my hair just to try and grow it back to the same length I'm starting at.

Honestly, the relaxed ends help me to roller set by allowing me to grip firmly at the roller. So they will be around until they are trimmed away 1 inch a year at a time. After 27 months of growing my relaxed hair out, they don't bother me as long as I keep them strong with protein treatments and smooth with roller sets. Kudos, hats off and all that jazz to the Ladies and yourself for doing it! You go girl.

I cut my shoulder length curly hair (almost waist length straightened) to above my ears recently and I loooooove it! I will never have long hair again.

If you are unsure, cut it in stages.

I did it both times I went natural. The first time I went to a barber shop, where the women looked at me with my almost-APL hair and visibly cringed as the barber snipped my relaxed ends off to reveal an inch-long TWA. One woman exclaimed, "That isn't evem my hair and I am crying!"

The second time was when I cut off my almost-APL hair after transitioning for 6 months to reveal my slightly fuller TWA. It created quite the shock in my office, but only among the Black people--the white folks quite liked my springy coils.

I am 21 weeks into a 26-week stretch, and I am SORELY TEMPTED to cut off my MBL relaxed hair to play with the springy coils I can now feel again, especially since my knowledge of the care and upkeep of natural hair has vastly improved in the seven or so years since I've been natural. I am even considering just straightening the roots from time to time to enjoy my length while fostering a super-extended transition (2 years or more) so I can bypass the "awkward midi afro"--too long for TWA chicness, too short for cute afro puff/bun styling--stage and go straight into the "cute curly cloud" stage, where I received the most compliments for my natural hair. I'll see how I feel at the end of April when I hit 26 weeks.

I will cut my hair off in a heart beat. I like dealing with relaxed long hair best. I don't have patience to deal with long loose natural hair. I prefer locs for that. I cut my hair off last year due to a setback from postpartum shedding. I cut about 4-7 inches off. Also, I cut my hair into an ear length bob back in Feb. I'm growing the crappy cut out and plan to grow it to bsl and beyond. I don't hold on to hair like that. If it needs to go, it goes! I'm an all or nothing kind of gal!

Yes, I was APL relaxed and then one relaxer set back to SL and then I BC'd and got it shaved all in a period of five months.

Best,
Almond Eyes

I was bsl with relaxed hair and chopped down to about three inches natural.

Yep went from BSL natural to a tapered twa.....but it's growing back ;-)

Went from tailbone length to bsl then to shoulder length. Going back to MBL at a minimum. I am never cutting it again.

I cut my hair at the drop of a hat. Haven't done it in a while, but several times in my life I've shaved my head from various lengths - MBL, BSL and APL.

I went from WL to a chin length bob a few years ago. Everybody around me was really upset with me.

My dad told me I was "squandering" my hair  It's hair, it will grow back as long as you take care of it.

Some years ago, I went from relaxed BSL to ear lenght.

2 years ago I went from HL natural to ear lenght.

I can't imagine dealing with very long natural hair again and I'll probably cut it all again. APL or BSL is now my max.

I did several chops and not one huge chop. I went from BSL to ear length now I'm about chin length unstretched, collar bone straightened.

My hair was MBL at the beginning of this year..now it's scraping SL..I want to cut more in the front..my back is completely natural again but my front is still pretty straight..I haven't relaxed since Oct of last year however I use to dye my front blond and it straightened my hair..I'm trying to wait a few months before I chop again.. I really missed my curls..

Whimsy had very long hair and chopped it off to donate it I think. Could you share with us please?

hey Aviah! Not sure what exactly you'd like me to share but...

yeah I cut it all off and donated last september. Wow i just realized I've been keeping my hair short for almost a year now!

Sometimes I miss it, but it's so easy short, and that was a goal of mine, along with donating natural hair to a charity.
