Did anyone get good growth w/out using braids?????

I grew my hair out without braids. I do wear protective styles (mainly buns), keeping the ends protected.

Humm. I am not at a length in which I can do a nice bun. My hair is end of face length in the front and end of neck in the back...so buns are out for now. That phoney pony is not an option for me. How does one keep the ends tucked? I keep hearing that.

Regina, u know now that I think about it I can see why the phony pony wouldnt appeal to u, since u are a teacher and want to look professional. not that u cant look that way with a phony, but it kinds of makes ppl seem younger.

I missed mine too

I also do protective styling on a daily basis and I haven't seen this much growth since. Braids never really worked for me (all the shedding afterward had me running up the walls

)I think both would do great...just leaving your hair alone I think would be the main purpose.

girl, u dont need long hair to do a bun..look at dontspeakdefeat's album and she has a great handy dandy way of doing bun's for shorter hair...it is really a great idea..
its all bout keeping the ends protected...and retaining length..

Ive gotten good growth without by just doing protective styles(buns, twists etc.). I havent worn extensions in over 10 years.

I have never worn braids and have gotten pretty good growth, I use buns and french twists, anything that kept my ends tucked up and away!

Another fan of protective styles here. I have never worn faux braids, weaves, or extensions before in my life.

I am getting good growth and I saw the greatest results since I stopped getting trims. My stylist was trimming my hair whether or not it needed it. Since I was only drying once a week under a dryer while my hair was wrapped and only wearing it in protective styles (phony pony), it was not being damaged, thus no need for trims. No heat other than 30 minutes once a week under a dryer and drying naturally the rest of the way plus protective styling did the trick for me.

Do you guys think weekly roller sets or flexi rods would do the trick? Does anyone have a link to DSD hair album.. I want to see how she does her buns. thanks.
