So.. I started perming shortly after being diagnosed with diabetes (Type 1, I was 17). Now, at 20 I've BC'd to a TWA because my hair was constantly breaking off and didn't seem to be growing no matter what I did. Now it's growing and healthy and I can't seem to stop it! At first, I attributed it all to going natural, but this is even better now than it was before: so I'm thinking that the biggest difference for my hair has been finally getting my diabetes in control:rolleyes: Now that my blood sugar's are consistently within range (90-170), my hair is thriving!

I'm thinking this has something to do with me finally getting good circulation. I'm wondering: has anyone else seen this to be true? Not just with diabetes, but with other illnesses... does finally getting better health (esp. circulation) seem to help your hair grow?

You know what, I actually believe this. When I was 15 my mother went natural, and she never had a problem with growth. ( She was keeping her type 2 diabetes in line). Fast forward to 17.... my mother's diabetes was way out of control. I promise you her two strand twists stayed the same length up until she passed a year and a half later :nono:. I didn't see the connection until just now. I think that there's definitely a connection to health and hair. :yep:

I agree also. When my diabetes (type II) is under control I tend not to shed as much and have way less breakage and thinning. I try to eat right and exercise and my hair and body seem to appreciate it.

I can believe that :yep:

I don't have diabetes, I have lupus and when my lupus is acting up, my hair and skin are as dry as can be.

I was a diabetic and now I am borderline but when mine was out of control my edges thinned like crazy. I stopped relaxing in Sept 07, bc'd June 08 and my hair is now crazy thick. The medications I was on caused a lot of the problems. My grandmother had beautiful wavy hair until diabetes took it out. She was left with really short wavy curly hair that never grew due to sugar.

I actually do believe this about the diabetes. I am a type 2 diabetic and thinking back when I was first diagnosed in 2001 my hair was extremely thick, full and long. But have noticed through the years with my denial issues regarding the diabetes I was not consistent with my pills and other meds because of a set back taking too many diff. meds I just decided to stop. Sometime in 2004 I noticed my hair thining all over the place. But this yr 08 I have been taking my meds for the diabetes (Insulin now) 3x a day, and noticed my hair was also thriving before my bc 2 wks ago.

I have noticed a significant change in my hair since I've been more consistent with my shots. It does make a difference. At least for me.
