I have had HUGE success using a DHT blocker. I was not so sure it would work, but it has. I really was on my way to losing my hair....the dht blocker combined with healthy hair practices has turned my hair around for the better. I am so happy I took action and did something before it was too late.
Have you had any sucess pretty fine?

Apparently ketoconazole and other 'azoles (like that is found in MN) are DHT Blockers.
I just purchased VitaTress Biotin Scalp Creme by Nexxus which has DHT Inhibitors. I didn't know it had DHT Inhibitors as I was purchasing it for the Biotin.
Hi lady! Unfortun. no. One thing that has helped some is Nizoral 2%. I was skeptical about it but with so many being helped by it I tried. It helps to slow it down some. It's the only thing thats helped any.
I'm one of those who had "thick hair to the ends" as my stylist used to say. But over the years the thinning has increased to where I"m always CUTTING my hair just to keep the ends from looking stringy. And then a few mos later they are yet stringy again! its hard.
I guess I'll have to get something Rx strength also.
Has anyone used a brand of Saw Palmetto that's worked? I used the walmart brand and it didn't.
Anyone used a brand of garlic that's worked? I used the "nature made" cvs brand and they didnt work. I'm wondering do the gel caps work best.
Is there anything else that's helped anyone?
I'm tired of washing my hair every 4 days with the Nizoral. It gets tangled and its just an inconvenience.
Has anyone used a brand of Saw Palmetto that's worked? I purchased the liquid extract from www.herbalremedies.com to apply to my face and scalp. It works to keep the facial hair away. My SO takes the Sundown Naturals brand and he likes it. I take a local store brand (160mg) and it seems to be working for me. Some people have to take more. Every one is different. How much are you taking?
Anyone used a brand of garlic that's worked? I started using the Kyolic Aged Odorless Liquid Garlic Extract. It doesn't taste good but it doesn't give me headaches either.
Is there anything else that's helped anyone? Emu oil has shown positive effects in activating dormant hair follicles. http://www.emuoilnaturally.com/research.html
My SO like the Groganics hair care brand. I purchase it from www.ebonyline.com
Even though this web-site is selling hair loss products, I really like how they present information: http://www.add-hair.com/dht-blockers.htm?cat=127.
DHT is produced when testosterone attaches itself to a hair follicle and the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme at the hair follicle turns the testosterone into DHT. DHT is 30 times stronger than testosterone. DHT is necessary especially in growing boys. It's what turns boys into men. It causes their prostate to grow, facial hair to grow and deepens their voice. However, too much DHT, can "suffocate" the hair follicle on the head.
Again, DHT causes facial hair to grow. Due to my age and thus my increasing facial hair, I take 160mg of Saw Palmetto along with 250mg Magnesium (PMS prevention) at night. I once added Saw Palmetto to my face toner and applied it all over my face with out concern. My eyebrows got thinner. So now I only put Saw Palmetto on my upper lip and chin 2x's a day to keep the facial hair at bay. In order for it to work best, I wax and pluck the stray hair and while the hair follicle is exposed I apply the SP directly to it. It works. Each growth cycle, my facial hair is a lot thinner and finer. I haven't gotten a chin hair in almost 2 months. Saw Palmetto is contraindicated in women who plan on bearing children. Of course, children should not ingest DHT blockers.
I bought the Groganics shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in products (not the salve) for my SO. He likes them. I purchase them from www.ebonyline.com.
However, it's possible to purchase natural DHT blockers herbal extracts and oils (Emu) and add them to your hair products.
I add Saw Palmetto, Fenugreek and Nettle Root extract along with Emu oil to my MegaTek. I primarily did this for my SO. He likes MT. After researching more on these extracts I concluded that if they don't help me the definitely will not hurt me. So I've been using them as well with no adverse effects.
Oral spirnonolactone was the first thing my derm prescribed for my hairloss and I cosign SelfStyled--IT WORKS! You might also ask your derm about writing a prescription for topical spiro--it is mega expensive and is rarely covered by insurance but IMO, it works much faster than oral spiro.
This company offers samples for sale: http://www.proanagen.com/productbycategory.asp
I am skeptical about it though. I guess when I see the price on the 3 month kit I raise an eyebrow. LOL
But for the sample price (1 cent), it is worth a try if someone wants to investigate.
did your SO have a shedding or thinning problem before using? if so did he say using those products stopped the thinning or shedding?
thanks but my question is does it work? meaning does it prevent the heavy shedding you and hubby were experiencing? Garlic and saw palm
Hey CS- yes it was prescribed by my Dermatologist. I was diagnosed with female pattern hair loss and she prescribed Spironolactone(DHT blocker). It took about 6 months before I noticed any change at all, but I stayed prayed up and just committed myself to turning this around.
I swear my hair density has increased! I have never had thick hair by any stretch of the imagination, but slowly I feel my hair getting thicker.
Unfortunately, the only thing that hasn't turned around for me are my edges. It's like a see saw, they grow, and then shed it's weird. I also think it is because I am hypothyroid as well that I have difficulty maintaining a healthy hairline.
Make sure that your derm does a full blood analysis also have her check your thyroid levels as well. HTH.
I am wishing you the best and hope that you get this figured out.
