Detangling fiasco spinoff- Your longest session?

The Ateyaa detangling fiasco made me think of my own detangling sessions. I'm currently taking down my micros after 2.5 months and its Day 3 erplexed I mean . Now I do work work full time so keep that in mind. This has definitely been the longest session.

How long has your longest detangling session been? Also, what do you do in the meantime if you have to go out in public? I must say, I'm rocking a chic wig bob that is cut into a cute bob style. I'll post pics later!!!

My longest was about 4 hours. Well - if you don't count me taking down my locs (which is detangling on a whole nother level) - that took me about a week, wrapped up with a 36 hour session.
But on loose hair - yeah, 4 hours.

For me - It is about 3 hours - if that is necessary. It rarely is - because I don't wear my hair loose.

I Pre poo - shampoo, and Post condish in Braids or twists. This GREATLY diminishes my need for major detangling sessions.
I wear my hair in styles that last a week...........
My hair is loose when it is Straight. I gave op on curly styles, etc... That would be a hair disaster.

I also think the right products will help in decreasing the need for major detangling sessions....

Poor Ateeya treated her natural curls as though they were relaxed. For me - the two textures required very different regimens....

I once wore a sew in for four months and I made the mistake of wetting it before I detangled it properly. I was in a foreign country, at the friends house with out the necessary tools, and I had serious crisis detangling session that lasted for hours. I don't know how long because I had gone into the shower expecting to be in there for a regular amount of time and when I left the bathroom I was so exhaustes from detangling, panicking (sp), and cleaning all of my hair off the floor so it wouldn't freak out my German hosts!

I totally feel Ateyaa, I love my hair but it is thinner at the ends because of my misjudgement. Thankfully that was at the beginning of my journey and I have plenty of hair so thinning isn't the end of the world.

Anytime I have a micro braid take down, it is going to be a long night. I detangle (with fingers, nail files & little braid spray if needed) as I take down each individual braid. I'm too scared for all that knoted hair to even "hangout" together and go back and detangle at the end.

So I am not sure how long just the detangling part took, I was usually up all night though. Back then I didn't have the best hair practices so I most likely had a relaxer or new braiding appointment the next day. Hence the staying up all night to take them down.

My last take down I had a friend help me and we did it in 2 days. I took down just the middle and detangled and put the braids back in a high pony.

All damn night!

I didnt even have small micros, i just had some basic kinky twists.

Took all night to get them out then took over 3 days to COMPLETELY comb all the knots out. I had to wash it while knotted up so i could go to work and just pulled it into a bun and each day, i came home and went to work.

I cried, my hands and fingers hurt and I cut out pieces of my hair. NEVER again....People suggested i go to my stylist and pay her to take them out but to me, what is the purpose of having such an expensive protective style then?

I gotta pay her over $100 to get the braids, another $45 to re-do the front after a few weeks, then MORE money to take them out? It wasnt cost effective at all IMO.

Im jackedeffedlaxed.... Sooooo once a month I spend anywhere from 25+hrs-2/3 days detangling strand by strand on dry hair Tedious?... Yes!!!!! Retaining all my hair afterwards... Priceless!!!!!!

I was planning on self relaxing, and it was only my 2nd attempt at it, plus I was Stretching 10+ weeks, So I detangled slowly over the Course of a few Days leading up to it.

Because I did not want to do alot of Unnecessary Manipulation and Handling which could possibly irritate my scalp since I had quite a few knots & tangles so I really took my time.

3 hours total: one hour to detangle before shampooing then 2 hours after conditioning. This tends to happen aroud 10 weeks post if i include any strong proteins in my regimen

I had pencil-sized individual braids. It took nine hours to remove them and detangle my hair. May I add that although it was time consuming, my hair looked so beautiful and thick after removing the braids.

about 6-8 hours to take out micros. 2-1/2 hours to take down a weave.

My longest was about 5 hours...I had very small two strand twists in my hair for a while, then I just took them out and washed my hair...then I made the mistake of putting on ACV before detangling...my hair was VERY hard to detangle that day. I was so frustrated...learned my lesson though...

Back in 2002 I wanted long hair NOW and decided to let this crazy lady GLUE a weave to my hair. Oh at her house by the way. She asked me to buy the hair and I bought the wrong kind. This was my first time putting a weave in my hair and I had no clue.

Anyway the weave was beautiful. A week later I went to wash my hair and I grabbed the comb..... about 8 hours later I was still detangling. I cried because I was in the Dominican Republic visiting family and I couldn't take that thing out for 2 weeks. By the time I got home I was a hot mess.

I went to the crazy lady to take that mess out. Well she freakin glued it to my head so she tore out half my hair. I probably lost 50% more hair than Ateeya. Damn I'm having flashbacks. LOL

You are one patient sista...I saw a dread take down on Youtube bruceleeand it took a looooooooooong time. Very detailed but it was worth it b/c the chic had a bunch of hair.

The longest for me was like 3 days, but now I got hip as to how prevent this. JOHNSON AND JOHNSON NO MORE TANGLES SHAMPOO.

My longest was an hour last week! Idk what was wrong... maybe too much protein.. But once I started bagging my ends every night, the detangling has been a breeze!!
