I am asking what is a good product for detangling. I looked at the Knot Today by kinky curly but in the comments left on their site someone said it didnt work well if other products were used with it. So I am just asking if there may be another product that can do the job. TIA
 
The best detangler I have found is

Aloe Vera Gel
and a squirt of oils of your choice.
Detangles my hair like a dream.

I am sure there is other stuff out there.... But I dunno.
 
i have tried everything and the one thing that worked is mane and tail detangler
 
Wildchild453 is right about qhemet olive cream detangler. I ran out a while back, but this reminded me to re-order. My hair tends to get extremely tangled and the olive cream detangler is great and leaves your hair super soft as a leave in.
 
Giovanni Direct Leave in or Salerm 21. Porosity Control with running weter from the sower helps to lossen it out beforehand...
 
Roux Porosity Control is a wonderful detangler. I use it after rinsing out my conditioner whenever I'm stretching my relaxer past 12 weeks. It works amazingly well.
 
Today, I finally used the Denman brush I bought at Sally's. It is AMAZING! I usually use a Jibere Shower Comb and it takes forever. And all you hear sometimes is Pop snap pop. I thought that was the usual, but I was so wrong.

Now at first using the brushs was a little weird at first because while pulling the brush through your hair and it gets stuck towards end and you have to pull the brush out and brush the ends only. Than you go back through the length of the hair again and it goes through completely.

Detangling went soooooooo sooooooo FAST. I just put in my cholesterol which seems to be the only thing that works on my hair as far as my condition washes are concerned and NOT under running water...I began to detangle sections of my hair. It went sooo fast. And there was hair in the brush. After I did the whole head and got out of the shower I pulled the hair out of the brush to check the lengths etc. In the brush I found long pieces of hair. Not small broken pieces..but pieces that were ready to come out and were caught up in the napps.

I am confident this is going to help bring an end to those knotts at the ends of my hair strands that have shedded pieces of hair intertwined (sp).

Plus using this brush with some Fantasia gel, made my usually non-existent 4A spiral curls POP and last through the day. Shout out to LADYKP for that youtube tutorial.

ETA: Kids Organic Moisturizing Cream or something like that..is AMAZING. It really hydrates my strands and makes going through them with my hands or a comb while doing two strand twist or any other style really easy. So I am not popping my napps while pulling them apart to create styles.

ETA: The amount of hair that came out of the Denman brush after detangling weas the size of a quarter and make a ball out of that. So if you know the little balls you get out of machines..you pay a quarter get a ball. It was that size.

I really like Qhemet's Olive Cream Detangler!! It's too expensive:wallbash: I wish they made it in a larger size!! It's a great product and it smells heavenly.

My hair is super extra tangly. If there were a Tangly Awards, my hair would take top honors. I sometimes think that my entire hair life is devoted to keeping my hair from locking. It's never easy and I'm always astounded when people say that it's easy or it took less than 20 minutes or whatever comb or brush they were using was "gliding" through their hair. :shocked: I have tried the Qhemet Olive Conditioner and Detangler. But not as a detangler. I need a LOT of product for detangler, and at $16 for small jar, I just can't use it like that. Same thing for Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Milk and Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner. I have also tried the Denman and that things takes everything out, shed hair and it breaks off pieces. There is no way in the world I can use the Denman for detangling. The best I can hope for is to detangle first (I always use a metal pick) and then go through it with a Denman. In fact, I did this last night, but I'm not confident that it still didn't break hair off.

So far, the best thing I've found is 1/2 jar of Neutrogena Triple Moisture Hair Mask, 2 eggs, and 3 tbl of coconut oil. That Neutrogena Hair Mask is not cheap, either, so I want to find an alternative. I tried a couple of my conditioners, but the result wasn't as good. I hope to try one of these tubs of cholesterol some time as that looks a bit similar.
 
I use Natural Oasis Silking Hot Oil Hair Reconstructing Treatment regularly. It detangles my 4A-4B textured hair instantly. Definitely a keeper for me!!! :grin:
 
Aloe vera gel is the best detangler -- the food grade kind with purified water -- not the 100% gel from the skin section.
 
I just checked qhemet's site for the Olive Cream Detangler because this thread got me thinking about it again. I think the prices went up, when I had it last year it was in a bigger pump bottle and I don't think it was much more than the 8oz is going for now.
 
Believe it or not Elasta QP H Two is an excellent detangler (and I have very tangled natural hair)!
 
The Pantene Detangler works wonders on my hair, but the way that you all are raving about other products, I'm beginning to think that its not doing my hair justice. Gotta get a Denman brush and some Aloe Vera Gel. Aight?
 
I really like Pantene detangler. I've been using it for years, and it works well. I hope it'll continue working well.
 
i use a few products to detangle depending on how bad my hair is that day

Kids Organic Shea Butter Moisturizer
Sebastian Potion 9
Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine
Sunsilk Anti Poof
 
ACV mixed in certain conditioners. Turned LeKair cholesterol from crap that I was going to throw out to simply amazing! I like to think of it as cheap porosity control.
 
I use my denman in the shower - after dc'ing and BEFORE rinsing - this has been great...

so - this is how I did it.........


I try to detangle before showering - so I use Aloe vera gel ( edible version)
to do initial plaits/twists


1.pre poo as normal
2. poo - oil rinse - rinse
3. DC
4. hop in the shower - use the denman with hair full of condish - detangle each section - retwist - with a kiddie barrette on the end

5. rinse well

6. Finaly distilled water rinse.

AHH - heaven. No major tangles. This is better than the comb for me.

Really? I just bought it @ Bi-Lo and I havent noticed it working but then again just realized I have too much protein in my hair.
