have you all been making progress as far as growth? These last 3 weeks in New York have been soooo cold. If it weren't for my braids I know I'd be shedding as bad as a dog right about now. Despite all of that though shockingly I have made some proress. Usually my hair grows at a turtle's pace during the winter, but this winter I have noticably gotten an inch of new growth. I guess I can attribute that to the vitamins. I've re-added amino acids and that helped speed the growth a bit. So how are the rest of you doing? /images/graemlins/look.gif

Hey legs,

Talk about cold, yesterday it was 1 degree in Boston! Today it's up to a balmy 14 degrees. The cold is always tough on my hair but this winter is particularly tough. My hair is shedding like crazy, but there's not much I can do. As for growth, it's hard for me to tell. I've been seeing so much shedding that I can't say I see much growth at this time. /images/graemlins/look.gif

I thought it was only me, my hair is shedding, shedding, shedding this is my first really cold winter in a while, I panicked and thought I was shedding so much because I was due for a relaxer but Pebbles steered me in the right direction (Thank you! /images/graemlins/drunk.gif), I can say I have some new growth but with the shedding I dont know how that will work out once I finally get a retouch.

Well my hair was doing pretty poorly at first. I had some breakage (as opposed to shedding) of the ends. Now that I had my trim (ie haircut) all the old ends are gone and my hair is not shedding/breaking anywhere at the rate previously. I keep my hair covered 24-7 and put on my satin cap as soon as I get to the house /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Damn, you are not playin'! This hair thing is not a game...LOL! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I've seen pretty steady growth this winter. Like you, I always cover my hair before heading outside (no matter how short the time I actually spend outside). Maximizing moisture has really helped. I had my hair cut to a bob just below earlength in October and my hair is now at the nape of my neck - which is no small feat, given how long my neck is! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif (it might be a characteristic many tall women have to deal with...)

My hair doesn't really shed now that been on these boards showed me moisture is my friend! (i was always afaraid to spray my hair b4), well any whoo i pulled out a couple braids to re-do and only a couple stranges came! NO breakage (something new for me). My scalp always seems to be warm after i put on the doo grow stimulating growth oil (i think thats helping)...btw I LOVE YOU ALL! i know i WILL get my 12" in the front in te 10" in the back (the back seems to be 2" slow) owelll! <3

[/ QUOTE ] You're welcome Dandy! /images/graemlins/smile.gif A lot of people experience excess shedding during the cold months. This year has been really bad. Jack Frost has lost his mind this year. This is the coldest winter I can remember in a while. /images/graemlins/look.gif

I don't knoe if all the shedding I've experienced lately is from the braids I just removed or the cold temps here in Detroit or because I'm coming up on 13weeks since my last relaxer. Which every it is I had positive results by doing a condtion only wash. I had only 3 strings of hair in my hand after washing /images/graemlins/grin.gif This was my first time trying this kind of wash but, it's a keeper /images/graemlins/grin.gif /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've been moisturizing my hair EXTRA good at night and putting a little EXTRA on the ends. I'm keeping my ends protected from this cold wintery weather (in a bun of course). /images/graemlins/wink.gif I never go out (in this weather) without having my hair covered. I always have on a pretty satin/silk scarf. That air/wind is just too cold to not have my hair covered.

I've been wearing hats EVERY time I'm out. Its just too cold to have that wind whipping over my bare head.

I've been wearing my hair down though since that L'oreal Unfrizz Treatment has managed to keep it moisturized to the ends which is very suprising. That hat stays on though no matter what.

I just make sure every time I come in from the outside that I put some jheri curl juice and olive oil on my new growth and the length of my braids for my natural hair. At one point, I knew I was overmoisturizing, but I really didn't care. I find that the braid extensions help "trap" the moisture within the braids which greatly benefits my hair braided in with it.

i have had hardly any shedding at all and negligible breakage. the key for me has been moisturizing via frequent washing, deep conditioning and constant monitoring and protection of my ends with world of curl activator and petroleum. growth has definitely slowed down as compared to the summer but thats ok, summer is coming!!! as long as my hair is not breaking, i am fine /images/graemlins/smile.gif

THIS COLD WEATHER MAKES NO SENSE! It is some kind of oxymoron for weatherman to say the words "high" and "3 degrees" in the same sentence. Thankfully, my hair is not bereaking off so far. I have been moisturizing it twice a day (sometimes 3 times) and keeping it in a drawstring ponytail. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Pebbles are you a Bostonian? I thought you were a New Yorker?

Anyways as for my, my hair is dry, but I combat that by wearing my hood outside and washing my hair everyday. I never had the energy to wash it last night so I sprayed it with Kemi conditioning spray before I went to bed. My poor follicles are screaming when I go outside I can feel my head seizing up. If it wasn't for the hood I'd stay at home constantly, I don't even care about new growth this month. I just want my hair to be moisturised constantly right now.

I am a Bostonian, though I was born in New York. /images/graemlins/smile.gif I've lived here since I was a year old. /images/graemlins/look.gif

I have also been seeing alot of new growth. /images/graemlins/smile.gifMy hair grows very slowly at this time of the year. However after my touch-up last Saturday I was suprised at the length of my hair. You see I only "see" my hair every 6-8 weeks. When I get a touch-up I braid my hair that night and I just wash, condition and braid till my next touch up. I must admit that I have made an effort to keep my hair very moisturized this winter. I guess it is paying off! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'm with you....I'm moisturizing like a fiend and I hardly have breakage or shedding. I don't comb every day and that may add to it but I cover most of the time going outside and I'm noticing growth--Thank God.

I am so glad to read this thread. I thought it was just me. I'm having a hard time this winter. I see a good amount of new growth, but the weather is really drying my hair. This week the new semester started and I was just too tired to really put in the time for moisturizing my hair at night. Also, wearing a hat makes it rather difficult to style my hair up. I see that I'm going to have to hit the moisturizing hard and the single braid will have to be my friend. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif I'm so afraid of getting split ends and losing length, I think sometimes it drives me crazy... /images/graemlins/frown.gif
