Depressing Breakage (kinda long)

I NEED SERIOUS HELP/ADVICE...SUMTHIN (please)!...In September of 2006 I relaxed my hair for the 'last time' (supposedly) and I decided to go back natural...(please keep in mind this was prior to finding LHCF) and I thought I could just stop getting relaxers and start getting weekly presses...needless to say that was a dumb move:wallbash:. anyways my hair started breaking really bad so I decided to just start back relaxing after 9 month stretch...since then I'm still experiencing quite a bit of breakage..I've read all of the threads I could concerning breakage...I've tried balancing protein (aphogee) and moisture...and I'm still experiencing some MAJOR breakage daily! I'm wondering if my hair is confused...does it think it's suppose to still be in transition mode or what?..I'm 'texlaxed', which I've always done prior to LHCF just cause I have sensitve scalp and the relaxer burns my scalp up...but anyways, my hair is growing, but it's got a lot of breakage...any suggestions?

aww...sorry to hear you're having hair drama.

when is the last time you clarified?

Yeah what she said.

Product build up can break strands.

Otherwise, what are you using. I got constant breakage for nearly a year before I realized that I was over doing the protein. Clarify and do moisture only treatments for a couple of washes.

if you are using products with a lot of silicones in them, you may need to clarify more often than that. What products are you using?

I HAD GOOD RESULTS WITH ORS HAIR MAYO AND ADDING AN EGG TO IT. ARE YOU DOING A LOT OF MANIPULATION TO YOU HAIR. TRY GIVING IT A REST WITH MAYBE SOME BRAIDS OR CONROWS. aND WHAT TYPE OF MOISTURIZER ARE YOU USING??? wHAT RELAXER DID YOU USE???

I am natual and was having lots of breakage. I started back taking Biotin with the b50 complex vit at night and that stopped my hair from breaking.

I think it's aphogee treatment for damaged hair (I cant think of the exact name, but it has blue writing on the bottle if that helps)...I deep conditioned the other night with that ORS replenishing pack..I dont deep condition very often, could that be a problem?

The aphogee is your problem....is this the one that stinks. If so that is WAY too much protein to use once a month.

Oh and the moisturizer I usually use is Hollywood's Best "hair mayo creme oil"...uh oh, maybe that's the problem? I've stopped with all the manipulation from the braidouts/pincurls, etc...that was just too too much manipulation for me. I've never been all up in my head like that before...I'm just bunning (baggying with a phony donut on top)

Yes, it stinks horribly!!!!!!!! So you think that's adding to the problem, I just started doing it once a month starting in July..it was breaking prior to that, as well...

I have used the ORS carrot cream which helps breakage. Also, pressing hair that has been relaxed is kind of tricky. From what I've heard this should only be done 2x a month at most with a WARM flat iron or comb. You also have to use a good heat protectant and keep your hair moisturized. Hope this helps.

You seem like you have protein overload.

Aphogee and ORS are protiens and the aphogee says to use it every 6 weeks. Once a month is too much. Try deep condtioning and leave the protein alone for a while. HTH

Try Keracare Humecto or Nexxus Humectess or some moisturizing conditioner like that.

So if your hair is breaking it's ok to do braids????

I would think the opposite b/c wont the extensions weigh down d hair & cause more breakage?

Ok, I'll cut down on the use of the aphogee...I'm not using direct heat at all (I stopped in July). I dont wear extensions because my edges tend to break--and I finally got them growing again after they fell out after I gave birth and I aint tryna get them fall out again, my hair is too fine for braids, I think....DC'ing is something I dont do often...

Girl, hide aphogee. Stick with moisturizing conditioners and mild proteins for a while. What products do you have in your stash?

Lots of conditioners, from V05, j/a/s/o/n, suave, mane n tail, creme of nature,....the ony shampoo I use is emu oil (I cant think of the brand)...umm...I have a bunch of stuff, look in my fotki--I have a product folder with all of my stuff in there....

Try using your lustersilk cholesterol for pre-poo's. That would be a good way to increase the moisture. I like the shea butter one. VO5 Strawberries and cream always adds moisture to my hair when I pre poo with it.

Have you tried the sunsilk stuff. I really like the hydra care for quick cheap moisture. Go to the website and get you some free samples.

I tried that for a while, I cant remember if it made a difference, but I'll start that back up and start dc'ing...any reccomendations on how long to dc? (30 min-1hr, with or without heat)...?

I usually dc for atleast 20 minutes. Last night I dced and I let it sit for an hour...I feel asleep . I used pantene relaxed and naturals breakage defense mask.

For pre-pooing, if I am using conditioner, I just coat the ends for a couple of minutes. If I am using oil, I let it sit for an hour.

Have you tried aubrey organics stuff? They make excellent moisturizing conditioners.
