demarcation line, relax again?? Need Help!

Well a few months back, I cut my hair to about chin length due to all the breakage I had been getting. I braidied my hair for about four months and switched to an Affirm relaxer which the hair dresser told me, would not break my hair down as much as another relaxer, which allowed it to be texlaxed. Great! Well now IM realizing not really.

At the point where the older straighter hair, and the new texlaxed hair is meeting, it is breaking like crazy:( . I see myself heading back to square one because I have all these broken hairs all over my head, and my hair which I finally thickened up, is heading back to square one:( . I can just run my hands through and theres more hair. You can see where the hair broke at the texlaxed parts:( .b

What should I do? Relax the newer hair to match whats at the ends or just wait it out?

I did an aphogee treatment, and applied 911, and that did NOTHING.

I dont know what to do now...this is so depressing:( .

sounds like you're doing the right things(protein treatments and such) are you doing deep conditioning treatments as well? I know it's hard losing hair that we work hard to keep:( but don't get down about it.. I am sure it will hopefully straighten itself out...hair is funny like that:)

I'll bump this for you!

Thanks Inner ((Huuggss))

I did do a moisturizing conditioner after, but I swear my hair is still kinda hard:ohwell: . That protein stuff never seems to work well for me.

So I shouldnt relax the affirm hair?

Hey girl, try some intense moisture. Since you just did a protein treatmtent so a couple of moisture ones to help add some elasticity back into your hair. Hair can be strong yet brittle. I notice that when I am texlaxed/underprocessed, my hair as whole needs more moisture. I sent a message to Sistaslick our resident hair science whiz and she said the same thing.

If you are saying what I think you are saying here, it I can say from my hair experience it is the combination of texlax (newer sections) to relax (older section) is your problem. When I had the combo hair, not even knowing this I had the same problem, shedding like crazy, breaking like crazy and I would have to after my hair ws dry was to flat iron it to even it out. I had a corrective done to have all relax hair now the problem is gone.

I would have a corrective done on the texlax hair or cut the relax section off, it is all up to you.

Hey T. I'm sorry to hear about your breakage problems. Try not to worry to much, because that may only add to the issue. I'm going to have to agree with Inner and gymfreak. The protein treatment has done it's job, now you need to get some serious moisture into your hair to give it elasticity. Maybe if you list your conditioner, and moisturizer one of the ladies can tell you if they are acturally moisturizers. :)

In the mean time, have you read Sistaslick's moisture/protein balance thread? Here's a link just in case:

Hey neonbright, I'm having the same problem as the OP. Can you please explain more thoroughly of what a corrective is and what it entails? Thanks!

I will have to agree with this too. I just got relaxed like 3 days ago and I pulled through my texlaxed parts the last couple of mintues. My hair doesn't like the differences. I know have a small section on my crown that is like 2 inches high. My hair broke off right at the texlaxed part.

A corrective is basically when you finish the relaxing process on underprocess sections to make them more consisitent with the rest of your hair.

Let me see if I can. Every head of hair is different. It is possible that your hair was not relaxed properly. If you were to look at your hair while it is wet with no products except a little to comb through, in a good mirror and good lighting; you will notice maybe a section or two or wavy hair and before or after that straight hair. You may have several sections like me from root to end it was: relax, texlax, relax, texlax and then relax. It drove me crazy and I didn't realize this was my problem with air drying and detangling.

If you were to look in my fokti and you will see pics 1 & 2, my hair is air dried and it looks crispy, wavy and straight, this was my problem not my products. Combo relax and my hair didn't mix.

I am in the same boat. I have been stretching and I HAVE TO RELAX THIS WEEK. My hair is beginning to break at that damn demarcation line. I think 16 weeks is too long to stretch for my hair. Next time I'll do 12 instead!

I think you should just do a corrective. Good Luck!

Thanks a lot everyone ((Cuddles))

What I did is I ran to sallys and got the ORS No-Lye relaxer. I purchased the ORS olive oil shampoo, and the Aphogee shampoo, along with the Aphogee moisture balance conditioner.

I put the relaxer through the top section of my hair for about 5 minutes wand ran through it with my hands. I quicky washed that section out, and continues with the other side and the back.

I then slapped the ors moisturizing conditioner on there before I neutralized for a few minutes, then I washed it out and neutralized.

I then put the moisture balance (aphogee) on there with the rest of the ORS moisture pack and am currently sitting under the dryer. Im going to wash this out, and put in my generics moisture leave in, and then air dry.

Maaan I hope this works:( .

Thx neonbright, and thank you to gymfreak! I know for sure I need a corrective. I was just thinking about how the other day parts of my hair isn't really relaxed from the time when my hairdresser skimped on the relaxer because she was in a rush.

Remember to give your hair a ton of moisture before your corrective. After your corrective do a couple of medium protein treatmens. I like to use something like keraphix or motions cpr for my first wash and do something stronger like Duo tex 3 weeks afterwards.

Is affirm no lye? Try ceramides --biolage and affirm's fiberguard are the first two that came to mind.

What are ways do I give my hair moisture? Do you mean by simply using a moisturizer everyday or is there something else?

Whoa girl, you were quick to get that relaxer . I know it's late and I probably shouldn't say it, but IMO that did more harm than good. If your demarcation line is breaking and your textures are fighting you should really focus on moisture not strong proteins (at least not until you get that moisture level up). I am not comfortable at all with the idea of putting relaxer on dry breaking hair that is that close to the scalp. I don't know what products work for you, but I have NEVER heard anyone say that Aphogee Moisture Balance was good, for me it made my hair stick hard .

Well, I would def. moisturize my hair every day, especially where both textures meet. Also give yourself atleast one deep conditioning moisture treatment a week.
