Defying Logic....

Are there things that you do in your hair regimen that seem to defy logic??

1) I pre-poo on dry hair then shampoo it out and condition. One would think that Im simply washing out all of the protein and its effects. BUT, my hair feels so silkier, stronger and healthier this way. The other way it feels dry, hard and brittle:confused:

2) I use Keracare Oil Moisturizer with Jojoba on wet hair before setting. Its chock full of petroleum and mineral oil but when my hair is dry, I experience less breakage and dryness. If I use leave-in and water, it feels nice but not as nice as the other way:perplexed

ETA: This ended up making my hair dull. I like water, leave-in better:)

3) I used Ors Olive oil which is a great moisturizer but makes my hair feel really weighed down. I use Keracare Creme Headdress with has water in it but also mineral oil and petroleum and it feels moisturized but NOT weighed down.

4) I sometimes pre-poo with oil which seems like a waste but overtime makes my hair feel more elastic and supple. But its not moisturizing anything so im like:confused:

Do you do anythign to your hair that really works but dont make no damn sense???

This is a really good thread!!! Here are some things that I do that defy logic:

1. Protein treatments on a schedule- I know you should do it as needed but I feel like it really helps.

2. Using grease to seal moisture on my ends- After I wash I use grease to seal my leave-in on my ends or before I baggie, the absolute truth!!

And I totally agree with you on the protein treat pre-poo, it works super wonders!!!

YEH! the oil on dry hair thing. i do this with amla b4 washing and its full of mineral oil but my hair is strong like a naturals and i rarely ever see breakage, only if i'm pulling on hairs constantly.

grease on the ends. works GRRRRRRRRRRREAT for me! (MizaniMami knows about this one!)

daily moisturizing - does NOT work for me at all! i can only moisturize once every 5 days otherwise my hair will build up and break!

all vitamins works for me, they say some do and some dont, but every vitamin i add just makes my hair better and better..i must be ONE malnourished girl for my body 2 appreciate EVERY supplement with no side effects!

Actually, the pre-poo on dry hair makes sense. If you pre-poo on wet hair, the hair has already absorbed some water, so it will take in less of the good stuff. Pre-pooing on dry hair lets the hair absorb more of the treatment... ;)

I want to try this. Do you think Aphogee is too strong to pre-poo? If so, what are yall using to pre-poo?

TIA

My wet hair loves hair grease it leaves it soft, shiny, and moisturized feeling( I guess it seals in the moisture) but if I try to put it on my dry hair it will get all crunchy and my scalp will itch.

I discovered my pre shampoo treatments were enough for my hair. I used amla oil and strawberries and cream and left it on for a couple of hours and my hair was soft, strong, and detangled. Is I shampoo and deep condition, afterward my hair feels like straw.

Oooo... a few..

I brush my hair when it's wet  after shampooing (after applying a leave-in concoction and detangling) with my Denman D3 to slick my hair back into a ponytail or bun to air-dry ...no more or less problems/damage doing this...

Wear my hair in some sort of ponytail or bun every day for at least part if not most of the day..no thinning edges, breakage, etc...

I use Vitapoint and it works... (amongst other stuff, hehe..;) )

I love this thread!

The protein pre-poo on dry hair I learned from you is a blessing! I look forward to doing my protein treatments much more now. :yep:

Constant Care for Ends contains petrolatum (and other ingredients I'm not familiar with) but I love how it works on my ends. I've been using it all along.

Let's see...I may have to come back to add more...:scratchch

I like to keep my moisturizing conditioner on for at least an hour. I know that I have heard that you shouldn't keep it on for this long but I do.

Since 2004 when I became a LHCF, I finally found out that moisturizing with a moisturizer daily or even most days of the week wasn't the thing for my hair... relaxed or natural...

I have been using S-Curl for quite some time... one of my favorite moisturizers... but overtime, it made my hair too soft and too mushy, making it weak and prone to breakage... same with daily water rinsing or co-washing... too much stress on my hair I guess...

So I have found out that my hair likes to be dry and loves GREASE! I went back to what I've always used before joining the forums. After I wash, I just airdry in braids, then unravel the braids once dry, apply Blue Magic grease to each section of hair as I twist it up...no breakage and stronger hair! :weird:

I've been pulling my hair straight back just about every day for over a year, often brushing my edges with a boar bristle brush while my hair is damp, and my edges had the nerve to actually fill in more

Yes Aphogee for Damaged Hair would be waaay too strong. But the 2 minute reconstructor from Aphogee would be perfect

I use my DRC-28 (heavy protein) as needed :look: . This can be as soon as every 3 weeks. I love it because it eliminates breakage, and I don't get hard hair as a result. It also seems to eliminate the number of shed hairs when rollersetting. I don't follow a schedule, I just do it when my hair is freakin out, which can be 10 weeks or 3 weeks.

Ooooh also, I know I should moisturize and then add oil, but too much moisturizing leads to breakage. I only deep condition, then halfway into my week, I use a moisturizer. Otherwise, oil morning and night keeps my ends supple.

Though I love honey for moisture in my pre-poo and henna treatments; MOLASSESS has taken over for INSTANT shedding decrease. It leaves my hair feeling STRONG & MOIST!:look:

yes - I can use nexxuss emergencee once a week after poo and prior to condition with no problem, but yet I cannot take protein at all after a chemical relaxer. I have to slowly reintroduce the protein back into the regimen. I guess because I'm using it so consistently prior to relaxing, I don't experience any breakage afterwards.

my hair can tolerate cones, and my hair does better with thermal curling than rollersetting. With thermal it stays moist and silky and shiny. With rollersetting it's crunchy and dry.

What an awesome thread! I like the old school Vitapointe and my ends are really loving greases now like Nature's Blessing, Hollywood Beauty Castor Oil and Kids Organics Gro Strong. I'm kinda eying Proline now, which has some big fat petroleum up in there.

I love this thread! (And your hair Macherieamour! Absolutely inspirational!)

This past weekend I henna-ed for the first time (pics in fotki). I shampooed the night before and airdried my hair naked so that it would receive all of the benefits of the henna. Even though I had not conditioned or applied any oils, moisturizer, or leave-ins, I have NEVER been more impressed by how healthy and soft my hair felt. I certainly wouldn't do this any other time, but it makes me wonder if my hair actually needs all of the things I put in it...

I've found that applying NO PRODUCTS on my scalp, and brushing my hair nightly with a boar bristle brush to be VERY beneficial to my hair growth. I think that's part of what held me back all these years. My scalp, I've come to find out, is quite oily. I'll wash it Friday, and by Sunday it's sticking together. The only good thing is that on the last day or two before I wash it, it's at least easier to make a slick bun b/c of the natural oils of my scalp to help smooth the hair down. You'd be surprised if you tried it yourself sometime. This saves me $$$ on scalp oils/greases. I now only spend it on poos/conditioners/serums, that go on the strands ONLY.

:look: :look: :look:

Last week, I discovered Sulfur8 Light Formula just--used on my ends--makes my ends super-soft and detangles them. I was absolutely amazed!

Only, I feel bad now because I bought it to give to my sister to help her dandruff problem.......

She gonna have to get her own!!!
