DC on Dry or Wet hair- Can't we reach a verdict?

I've heard good reason's on both and I want to do the BEST process. I can't really tell the difference so I might be missing something.

Dry: When a sponge is saturated with water, no more water can penetrate or be retained. DC'ing on wet hair may not let the product penetrate the hair.

Wet: Hair cuticles expand and allow the product in.

Well...chemists? Product specialists? Experts? Please explain.

What is it ladies! It's easier for me to DC on dry hair but if it's better to do on wet hair...One way to get around it is to spray dry hair with water, allowing the hair to expand and then adding the DC? dunno.

I don't think there will ever be a consensus. You just have to do what's best for you, I think.

I know on some products it tells you to use on wet hair...so in that case maybe it's good to follow the directions because it may work better that way.

Personally, I try to do everything I can in the shower or right out of it. So usually it's wet or damp hair. Works for me.

i think it depends on the consistency of the product. i tried silk elements mega silk deep conditioner on dry hair, and it didn't feel like it penetrated all that well. tried it again on damp hair in the shower, and my hair felt amazing. it's got a thick consistency, a bit thicker than mayonnaise.

however, i love using the ORS replenishing conditioner on dry hair. my hair feels as if its been infused with softness, as opposed to just conditioning on damp hair.

all in all, i think it really depends on the product.

I think its all about personal preference.

I DC on dry hair, because that allows me to only get in the shower once, and I also have found that my DC penetrates better that way.

i do both. when i dont pre poo with oil i pre poo with a deep conditioner and leave it in overnight. then i shampoo (wen) and deep condition with heat.

I DC on dry hair and It works great for me, and its easier because I can DC under the dryer for like 30 minutes and then do everything else in the shower in one fell swoop. I use Biolage Ultra hydrating conditioning balm.

Dry: When a sponge is saturated with water, no more water can penetrate or be retained. DC'ing on wet hair may not let the product penetrate the hair. I totally believe this so I primarily dc on dry hair before getting in the shower.

Wet: Hair cuticles expand and allow the product in.
The cuticle is raised by any alkaline product. Water is more alkaline than hair but so are most hair products. Conditioners are definitely made in such a way that they help with the penetration products. This is why I now make sure to add some conditioner to my home mixes.

Let me see if I can find the thread on yogurt. That supports what I am talking about...

I agree with the above highlighed but I DC on wet hair quite often. I have DC-ed on dry hair that works fine also.

I think wet!

I think it depends on the person and the product that you are using. When I'm using a homemade DC, I use it on dry hair... the others on wet hair.

I think it depends on the ingredients in the product. Like for instance the only ingredients that I know of that can actually penetrate the hair cuticle are quats. There could be others though. Then there are other ingredients that just coat the hair shaft to seal in moisture from water. Then there are other ingredients that work to make the hair pliable.

But in the end you'll know what works best for you by trying both. Personally I DC on wet hair because when I used to DC on dry hair, I noticed that I was using way more product.

I assume you're referring to pre-poo DC'ing...I apply conditioner on damp hair; Just use my spray bottle with water and saturate my hair so that its totally wet but not dripping. I've tried DC'ing on dry hair but in my experience it was too much manipulation, also couldn't tell if all of my hair was coated and it just wasted to much product. When my hair is wet, i can use less product, which results in softer, fluffier hair.

I like to DC on dry hair mostly. I add heat as well and it works great. It saves time but in the long run I bet it costs me alot more because I can use a whole jar almost. That's okay though because I'm trying so hard to get rid of all this Product Junkie evidence!

since i started dc on dry hair it feels like my hair been softer too bad im getting all these robes for christmas cuz i wanted them since i had to keep jumping in and out the shower cuz i was dc on wet hair oop lmao ill keep them for protein treatments and clarifying i guess but i think i like dry hair better
