What can be done about this? My sister has really bad flaking and I'm not sure what is causing it. She went to have her hair done on Saturday and the very next day she had to wash again because of all the flaking. Her stylist is using Keracare products.

Can anyone offer any suggestios as to how she can get rid of this?

Thanks.

I know Bee Mine Growth Serum helped my brother's dandruff. He had really bad flaking. Maybe she should use an essential oil like rosemary or tee tree oil (or easier, a product with them in it) as a daily scalp massage. That should help.

Hi,

I had this same problem. I would wash my hair and days later would have flakes on my shoulders. Even if I went to the salon, I would end up having to wash a style out bc my scalp would be so dry and itchy within a matter of days. On day in my local BSS I came across a dandruff shampoo called AtOne With Nature Dry, Itchy Scalp Shampoo. It works wonders. I used it a couple weeks in a row on major wash day and after a while, it was like my scalp was healed. No more nasty dandruff. It doesnt cost much I think in the $3-$5. I would def give it a try.

Nizarol AD was recommended by my dermatologist - and it works. Start off using twice a week and then once a week. My flakes and dry scalp have substantially subsided. Sometime now I can go two weeks without a wash. But at each wash I use the Nizarol followed up by my normal shampoo -KeraCare Hydrating. It's a keeper. You can find it at Walgreens, Target, CVS, etc. it's a bit pricey but well worth the money.

I too was using KeraCare for Dry & Itchy scalp poo and con but it wasn't helping.

Yes....sulfur is great to resolve dandruff issues..:yep:....and I believe BeeMine has sulfur in it.

Try Actrol by Matrix. It is very good. I had really bad dandruff and I used this stuff twice a week and it cleared it up.

I believe that dandruff is caused by a fungus. So most things with an anti fungal or antibacterial quality like the things that the other ladies suggest should definitely work depending on how severe it is.

An ACV rinse may help. You can also increase the effectiveness by adding tea tree and lavender essentials oil to the ACV solution

Condition, mixed with essential oils (tea tree OR rosemary, eucalyptus, & peppermint oils) applied to the scalp as a pre-poo has CURED my dandruff, literally. I suffered from flaky scalp my whole life & tried a ton of sulphur & anti-dandruff products. Cleansing the scalp frequently helps, too.

Tea tree oil is an anti-fungal. Just don't apply essential oils directly on the scalp w/ o mixing and pregnant women should avoid rosemary oil.

I have the same problem. I've started using Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment. It keeps the flakes aways for a good week. It has been a life saver.

I agree with Blonde...I just started using Nizarol AD cause I got tired of the crazy looks I would get when the stylist is wrapping my fresh hair with flakes flying all over the place..ughh.. KeraCare Dry and Itchy did NOT help. I was so disappointed. However I saw the difference in once use of Nizarol..going to get relaxed this weekend...but I wil have her use the Nizarol after the relaxer has been completely washed out. Its a Keeper for me:yep:

Here it is...

2 oz Hemp tea tree pure castile soap
2 oz aloe vera juice
2 oz water
1 oz glycerin
1 oz extra virgin olive oil
20 drops of rosemary oil

Well, I know my hair flakes up whenever I use direct heat (like blow drying my roots). I gave my hair a rest as well as using Henna (Body Art Quality- Cassia is what I'd recommend so that it doesn't change her hair color in any way or form- you can get it from Mehandi.com). The Henna completely irradicated my flakes. After that, I waited a few weeks (henna pretty much gets rid of the flakes for 3 months give or take) and used Hair One's Tee Tree Oil Cleanser (Sally's knock off brand of Wen. Cost me $9.99 with my Sally's Club card), let it sit on my hair for 30 minutes while reading a book in a bubble bath. I haven't seen a flake since.
HTH

^^^ I swear I was going to say the same thing. I have an itchy scalp and dandruff, I used Henna one time and added a little olive oil, I haven't been scratching or flaking since, lol

I used scalp remedy by Aveda years ago and it worked well.
You have to apply to scalpy daily.

Just remember when using dandruff products to deep condition or hair can get very dry.

I am sure you already have your remedy, but Aloe Vera Gel worked wonders for me. I had dandruff my ENTIRE life...truly grody flakes all over my head.

Found LHCF, used Aloe Vera Gel on my scalp after washing....NO MORE FLAKES!!! No medicine and all natural and it works like magic for me.

There's a thread on what it does for hair and scalp somewhere on here...
A Google search on this site will find it for you pretty quickly, I think.

I hope this is helpful to you.

Blessing, Christi
