Hi Ladies,

Can anyone share the benefits of using this brush, also how you are using it. I have seen this brush mentioned in several threads and I am interested.

Thxs~

I use my denman on small sections of hair after first detangling the section with my K cutter. I spray the section with water and put some conditioner or hair dress on the section. The brush gets the section REALLY smooth. It works like a fine toothed comb but without snagging my hair.

I wish the search function was working. There are lots of threads on the wonderful D3.

I purchased it after my colorist was brushing through my hair like I had just got a relaxer. It is great for detangling my hair. I also use it to brush my hair into Bush balls.

I use my D3 to detangle and smooth. Depending on where I am in the stretching process, I sometimes have to use a cutter comb first to make sure no large tangles are present, then section the hair and use the D3 to put my hair back for a bun.

I try to not use it on dry hair, though I have, but no ill effects for doing so. (probably because I don't do it often)

I was going to post a thread reagrding the D3. I have used a D31 for several years now. Recently, I ripped the D31 and replaced it with a D3 because Sally's was out of my D31. Unfortunately, the D3 will not get through my hair at all! Maybe it has too many rows for my hair. I think i am going to replace my D31 or D41.

Thxs Ladies!

I just purchased one and plan on using it on my next CO wash... is it better to use on wet hair than dry hair?

Pocohantas: how do you use the D5 brush for defining curls?

Just brush it through wet hair and the curls just pop. I don't really know how but I was amazed. I really noticed a difference in curl definition. I have some pics in my album.

I love, love, love, love (did I say Love? ) my Denman. I will probably get another one. I seen them at Sally's. Anyhow, I use it daily and I do not have the massive hair breakage that you usually get with hairbrushing. The most beneficial results that I have received from using teh Denman is when I do blow dry my hair. I used to get a whole bunch of breakage from blow drying. As a matter of fact, I had a small area that had broken off due to using a large comb in the drying process (my hair is really, really thick). I have very minumem breakage and my hair dries alot fast cut my hair time by alot.! And It is great for when you stretch because it smoothes the hair. When I am stretching, I part my hair in sections put what ever I am using on my hair, detangle starting from the ends and then concetrating on the roots (like a Dominican blowout) I use the brush with my dryer and it straightens my roots sooooooo well. I then just let the rest of the hair air dry primarily. But it was the Denman that allowed me to finally stretch my relaxer to 16 weeks and beyond. Great brush!

I notice it defines my coils too.

Ladies, for those with natural and thick hair, which Denman do you use? Do the teeth on the brush have larger spaces the higher the number?

Bumping for an answer to this question and more responses....

BUMP BUMP BUMP I would like to know the answer also becuase I'm in the process of getting a new brush and from the responses here it looks like I'm getting a D3 :)

I've heard a lot about this. I need to give it a try. Also curious about the going up in numbers thing.

I just bought a D4 from Sally's today. I saw the D3 and it looked like the one that I see on their website, but the D4 that I bought looks different; it's all black. Does anyone else have this one...is it just the new look? Also, this one has 9 rows and the D3 has 7 I think.

bump....Sounds good...I want one of these....Will it be good for gettin thru two textures because Im a stretcher....

My hair is about APL with medium thickness. I purchased the Denman 5 on sale for $7.99 from Sally's yesterday. It has 9 rows of teeth like the D4. It feels pretty heavy for a brush. Actually it's the same brush as the D4, it's just a heavier version. The Sally's I went to only had the D3 and the D5. They said something about the D4 being discontinued. I'm not sure if that is true or not. I will be using my Denman this morning when I was my hair to see if it takes out the tangles. I have extremely tangled hair:(. I'll let y'all know my results!

Yeah, the store here has a D3N and a D4. Does anyone know anything about the D3N or if the N even makes a difference? Plus, the D3N was black and white and the D4 was all black. Do the colors even matter?

The Sallys that I went to didn't mention anything about it being discontinued. All they had were the D3 and D4. I'm DCing right now and plan to use it when I detangle. My hair is REALLY tangled too, I am so nervous about trying to detangle with a brush. Is this really a good idea  . I'll let you all know how it goes.

I have a D5 and it dosen't seem to detangle well for me. It kinda feels like it's pulling my hair. Most of the time I detangle w/ my shower comb and then use the brush. Maybe it depends on the brush but some ladies say it detangles really well.

I tried detangling with it in the shower yesterday, and it did not work for me at all. I got a small section of hair and detangled w/ my shower comb first and then tried to use the D4, but it just didn't seem to work. Using a wide tooth comb seems to work better for my tangles. My hair is VERY,
VERY, VERY, VERY tangled. Is anyone else w/ this type of hair able to detangle with this brush? I mean, I even had trouble detangling w/ my wide tooth comb, so this brush DEFINITELY couldn't handle my hair. I'm going to try using it when I get my blowouts, when wrapping my hair, or just anytime my hair is straight, I'm sure it will be a great brush then.

The D5 detangled my ends well while under running water, but when I got to my roots(8 weeks post relaxer) , it was MURDER!!! It pulled at my roots big time. I tried again once I got out of the shower, and it continued to pull my hair. It would probably work very well if I didn't have such tangled hair. I am the tangled hair queen. I have tried so many products, and can't seem to detangle my hair well or keep it detangled. Any suggestions ladies???

If you know that your hair can knot you just need to take a few precautions beforehand, so a combthru with a large comb isn't entirely unheard of.

In my case, I use the denman to get my hair in the style I want it to go in. If I just pulled it through my hair without benefit of loosening any tangles first, it would be a serious disaster! I always use a detangler. In my case, I use Carefree curl gold which works wonders for my hair.

So really, it takes a little bit of trial and error to get to know this brush and how best to use it on your hair. For myself, I lean a little to the side and start at the ends of my hair, working myway up to the root. If I try to go from root to tip I'd get a bunch of tangles. I don't comb my hair in water because it does notthing for me. Some people can do just fine with it. Me? uh uh.

As with any comb or brush, you have to take your time and be patient. Its not going to just glide through your 3-4ab type hair at first, it seriously has to be untangled first. Really don't give up on it because it can really be a wonderful tool for your hair.

I upgraded to a D4 because they're definitly heavier and I like how balanced it feel in my hand. Again, I still have to be patient especially as I stretch my relaxer but that patience pays off. There are times that my hair says uh uh that brush ain't going through and it dosen't! (thats usually at 12 weeks post)

So you may just need to do a combthru first, then use it as more of a finishing brush.
