Cutting her loose.....Am I wrong?

Ok, after almost a year in wearing my hair in braids and sewn in weave and now I am wearing my hair relaxed. Ok, so now I am back to going to the salon once a week or once every other week. What really pissed me off was on my last appointment, which was scheduled for 9:30 (I was on-time) that I did not leave until 1:48pm! Ok, I would have been maybe ok with staying at the salon that long *if* I was getting a fresh relaxer, cut, color, the whole deal. But I was only in for a shampoo and set. Then, when I proceed to tell my beautician that I do not want the curling irons used, I want a roller set, she states, "that'll be ugly" What the fu**? Oh, also, instead of finishing me up and sending me on my way, she proceeds to finish up those that came AFTER I did.

Maybe I could understand this treatment if I was a sometime customer, but I am a regular customer and a good tipper. So, I have decided that this a new year and I am going to have a new attitude. Therefore, I will no longer be going back. I just have gotten fed up with spending my hard earned money only to be taken advantage of because I am a regular customer. One would think that with the state of the economy those in the service industry would be kind to new customers and old ones alike.

I don't think you are wrong that was rude. Especially, for a regular customer that tips well. Also, she seems to be more concerned with "how you look" versus the health of your hair and what you "the customer" wants. New year, new game plan...

You should move on to someone else. I know that there have to be some other hairdressers out there who would appreciate your regular patronage and generous tips much more than this hairdresser does. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Definitely cut this stylist loose. There is no way someone w/ an appt. for a wash and set should have to stay in the shop that long. As for saying that not using the curling iron would make it "look ugly" that means that she's not good at her job. For a long time I thought that everyone who got a roller wrap had a curling iron used on them, then I find out that a good stylist can make your hair look gorgeous w/ just a roller wrap. Where are you located? Do you know of any good stylists in your area I'm sure we can help if you don't!

Yes girl, It's time to move on if she won't give you the service you ask for leave her. There's no need for you to keep "paying her bills" and be dissatisfied.

auntybe

Not only should you not go back, you should tell them why you won't return. Tell them why they're losing a regular customer, and remind them that you're a good tipper to boot. Maybe they'll think twice about the way customers both new and old are treated and left to wait forever for services. And telling you that a roller set would look 'ugly'?

After reading a few posts lately about how stylists totally disregard our wishes and set their own agenda with our hair, I am getting more and more fed up with them. I thought I was doing myself a disservice by not going to a hairdresser regularly, but now I'm not sure.

Ditto on everything you said. It's time to bounce and I would let them know EXACTLY why. It may not change their unprofessional ways but maybe with the next client they'll try a little harder.

Plus after reading this that stylist sounds like the same type that chopped poor Azalia's hair in the other thread. I wouldn't trust her with a 10ft pole.

Girlll don't you dare go back! /images/graemlins/nono.gif I would speak to the owner too like someone suggested and MAKE SURE u include the profanity! Unprofessional. Now isn't it a shame the way some people act. Get some reccomendations in your area from some of the ladies on the board!

I agree with everyone, including yourself in that its time to move on. Make that your last ever visit to them. I agree with ms keneesha that she's doing a good job if she thinks that the only way to not make the hair 'ugly' is by using curling irons. She needs serious re-training to bring her up to this Century.

Definitely move on!

I agree with everyone else....get some good recs from others who's hair you admire and move on. I wouldn't even give her the courtesy of why I'm wasn't coming back. You are paying 'her' for her services....take your money else where.

Ladies, I appreciate your thoughts. I thought that maybe I was over-reacting but, guess I wasn't. My main concern was that the perm I use, Arosci is NOT available in beauty supply stores and has to be ordered AND you have to have be a licensed cosmetologist. And there are very, very few, stylists in Dallas that use Arosci. But after talking to a friend of mine that I use to work with who just happens to be a licensed non-practicing cosmetologist, she is going to order it for me. Hooray!!!!

And when I do decide to go to another salon, I am going to interview some stylists and let them know exactly what I expect!

Whether you're a new or a regular customer you deserve to have your wishes respected each and every time whilst you visit a salon. You did the right thing in cutting her loose. Good on ya!!

Yvette:
What an overwhelming response you've received. We all got your back!
You shouldn't even have to question whether or not you did the right thing. Obviously, this woman has become
complacent on the service side and figured since you've been "dealing with her mess" all this time, that you would
continue to do it, unchallenged.

Well, Sistah girrrrrrllll! You show her and hit her where it hurts: her Wallet!

We DO NOT deserve that treatment as consumers. I agree with you that you definitely need to interview/scrutinize
the next stylist. Here's what I do when searching for a new stylist:

a) Look at your potential new stylist's hair condition and that will tell you whether she's all about show or sincerely
interested in the health of her hair or yours. If it's in braids or weave, come back when she takes it out. C.Y.A.

b)Explain what kind of treatment you will and will not tolerate regarding your hair (in a nice way of course). Watch
the stylists reaction and if he/she's sincerely interested in helping you keep/meet your hair goals.

c) Watch them do their thing. This could save you heartache in the long run.

I'm proud of you! /images/graemlins/clap.gif
Good luck in your search!

Yvette,

Definitely move on! I am also very proud of you...especially the way you solved the issue with the relaxer brand....just awesome.

I really agree with what you said about the economy. You would think that would be some impetus to get people to learn to appreciate continued business, but apparently not.

Happy Trails to you and kissing a poor businesswoman goodbye for good!

Cheers,

Jade

That right Yvette...kick her unprofessional but to the curb. I applaud you! /images/graemlins/clap.gif /images/graemlins/clap.gif /images/graemlins/clap.gif

No.. And you should tell her "politely" why, so many hairdresser take long time customers for granted and be nice to the new ones trying to impress, we have no business ethic, I have cut a couple loose it's hard to find someone to be what you want but stuff like that is crazy.

If you go to a salon like JCP they keep thier appointments if your late they reschedule you so not to put them behind.

I think cause we put up with that stuff, that's why the do it.
