I have type 4 thick textured hair, and I dont cut the ends of my hair offend or at all, I want to start but I am not sure how, I dont want to have to apply heat (pressing with a hot comb) in order to cut my ends

, Does anyone know a good way to cut the ends of thick hair, and after I cut them how do I protect my Hair from having this happening again?

If I were you, I would get it professionally done the first time to see how it's done, then I would try it myself the next time. I cut my own ends, but my hair isn't really thick so it's not a problem. Have you seen a hairdresser yet?

When I trimm, I make some loose/individual braids, about 1-2" thick around my head and then look at the ends and trimm off a little, if you can't see them yourself use a mirror, or someone you Really, really can trust, that's not going to chop your hair off.

I would have it professionally done. After you have to dead ends cut off, it's kind of freeing, and then you can start taking care of your healthy hair. I had all my dead ends cut off, had to have layers cut, but I like it. My hair feels better.

I always gather my hair together in the back and make a ponytail and cut the amount in one snip straight across, sometimes it helps to have someone else make the snip as you show them where, put a rubber band right below or above, then once you do that, the side will be longer, but easier to cut to even out to the back. Always cut from the back to the front, it looks more professional.

If your gonna cut or trim its best to do it when the hair is wet..

And use the SHARPEST SCISSOR ON EARTH

If you cut hair when it's dry, your risking getting more split ends. but if you choose to do so, invest in good scissor and only use them to cut hair.

I was desperate too with what I perceived to be the same problem your having. That's why I purchased the split ender. Though it's not perfect, my hair feels a lot better. I think those different length splits were helped. From here on I'm not going to go so long between trims and I'm going to be careful about using too much protein as well.

What I do now with my hair to protect it is that I use Giovanni's direct leave-in and an oil that I know from the ingredients that it doesn't have any "cones" in it. I recently found Katawentz Braid Oil at an Oriental BSS. The ingredients are: Jojoba oil, Olive oil, Sesame oil and Castor oil. Then as needed I use Bumble and Bumble Leave-in (rinse out) as my conditioning moisturizer and again I use a little of the oil above or some of Fantastix hair thickener with pure wheat germ oil and honey. I don't mind the oiliness because I put my hair in a bun and then apply a baggie when I'm around the house, if I go out I put on a phonytail. I started this routine this past week. So far so good. But I must warn you if you purchase the Bumble and Bumble it is expensive but presently to me it is worth every penny. My hair feels great!

Let me know if you need any tips on the split ender when you get it. Here's one: Use it in a systematic way so not to repeat over the same area twice, do areas no thicker than 1 inch and no wider than the Split ender tool, on untangled hair.

Edited to add: My hair is relaxed

Spagirl,

How often were you getting trims before you realized the splits were getting bad?

I had gone 9 months before getting a bad trim.
