Curious - ur hair's reaction to...

I've discovered that my hair does not respond well to "natural" shampoos. It gets very dry and matted WHILE I'M SHAMPOOING!! My hair won't budge. I can only lather on top. At first I thought it was just the AO Honeysuckle Rose Shampoo but then I recently bought a shampoo called Seba and the same stiffness happened. I believe it is the ingredients in these shampoos. I can't pinpoint it. The ingredients are below. I got so frustrated at my last wash with the Seba that I picked up an old bottle of Motions Lavish Condish Shampoo (that was sitting in the shower for my husband to use up) and lo and behold, my hair instantly detangled and I was able to run my fingers through it while rinsing out the shampoo. I've decided to stick with Motions and Elasta QP for my shampoos. I just wish I knew why my reacts so negatively to the poos that have the good stuff in them. :(

AO Honeysuckle Rose Shampoo

my hair didn't like AO's Honeysuckle Rose shampoo either. which sucked cuz i spent $9 for it, LOL. LOVE LOVE LOVE that conditioner though!!! :D

Trader Joe's Nourish shampoo is the only "natural" (non-SLS) shampoo that doesn't screw my hair up... so i feel ya. ;)

I use JASONs, poo and shampoos: sea kelp, lavender, shaman, tea tree, biotin, hemp and just bought aloe and lavender poo/con, latter two not used as yet. The biotin can be a bit rough on "needs a touch-up roots" but the others are wonderful to my hair. I am moving towards more natural, herbal, flower, leaf and root products. I have always been a 'with the earth' female same as my great-grandmother and beloved Aunt {and I do mean G-R-E-A-T grandmother} Still have to use up my products but will be within a few months....a natural girl {exclude that relaxer!}.
I do not know what is up with the results you get but I say leave them alone.

My hair does not like them either. I think it is because I have hard water and many of those shampoos don't have ingredients that help with that.

I didn't fare well with the AO Honeysuckle Rose poo either. But yes, the conditioner is LOVELY. But, it makes my allergies act up, so I had to let it go... :(

Very few people have reported good results with AO shampoo's. All the raves are about the conditioners. I ended up using mine as a body wash/hairbrush cleaner. Try giovanni instead, especially their magnetic line.

I've had no problems with J/A/S/O/N Sea Kelp Shampoo. It's not a HG, but it gets the job done. I haven't even attempted to try the A/O shampoos because everyone seems to agree that they suck lol...I'll stick to their con's.

ditto! i was smellin GOOOOOOOD :D

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh....okay! Whew! Glad I'm not alone. I thought something was jacked up with my hair for a minute. Geeez! So much to learn. Then you find out, its just back to basics.

Thanks ladies!

Hi, Cayenne0622,

I have had the same issues, so you are not alone!! While I have not tried the AO Honeysuckle & Rose, I have tried the CD (Carol's Daughter) Tui Shampoo & the Rosemary shampoo, and my hair will barely lather. I love the CD oils, conditioners and leave in conditioners, but I can't do the shampoos. I have had decent results with AO Balancing GHB Shampoo and conditioner. HTH! I hear ya on the hard hair! :D

My hair doesn't like aloe. I brought pure aloe and mixed it in a condtioner I was going to throw away, then I HAD to throw it away. Made my hair rough :nono:

Tricie - I've learned my lesson! lol Maybe it works better on natural hair. Weird thing is that the Seba shampoo would lather instantly! I was impressed with that but it totally stiffened my hair during the wash.

Sareca - I wouldn't be suprised if Aloe is what's getting me too. hmmmm..

I've been able to use the JASON biotin shampoo without any problems. I also like Elucence Moisture Balancing shampoo, although I don't know if it qualifies as one of the "natural" poos. Too many people have complained about AO shampoos for me to want to try them!

i've been using Castil soap (dr. bronners) for the looonnnggest--but earlier this month tried Motions Lavish Shampoo and OMG---luv it.

I like that the castile soap has organic/natural ingre.----but my hair luvs the Motions and was just ok with the natural soap.

I thought it was just my hair too.

I bought J/A/S/O/N super moisturizing hemp poo & J/A/S/O/N super moisturizing hemp cond. The poo left my hair feeling stripped and robbed. I now mix the cond. w/other cond. to use it up.

It makes my daughter's natural hair feel slightly stripped also. Mad because I paid so much money for this.

I don't use natural shampoos, but I have a tip: When you're working with a very stripping shampoo (like a clarifying poo), and you can only shampoo the top layer because your hair is so hard, try using a bit of V05 or Suave conditioner on top of the shampoo. That should soften your hair up a bit so you can reach the bottom layers and scalp. It works perfect for me.
