Crown and Glory 2023!

I'm still spraying my hair with whatever leave in conditioner I get my hands on and sealing with oil or grease on the length of it since my hair kinda sticks out the twists. Only the scalp gets the spray.

Converted my cornrows into small-med braids last night. The last week of deep moisture was exactly what my hair needed. I forgot how much my hair loves to be baggied. Gonna keep up with it bc this winter is no joke. Washed and wore the braids out today and I might again on Monday to attend music class with my little one. I need to mix up some more herbal cleanser. Planning to keep these braids in until I texlax in April/May.

Well, I took my braids out Friday night. Saturday morning did a purple shampoo+moisture shampoo, Luseta Keratin Smooth deep conditioner (my gray hair is high porosity) but I didn't do a moisture deep conditioner. I used Luster's Pink Shea Butter and Coconut Oil Leave-in. I picked up this leave in on a whim because when I read the ingredients they were pretty good. It smells amazing (at least to me) and it is so moisturizing. After applying the leave-in, I tried Qhemet Biologics high porosity method/product group( (Cocoa Tree and detangling Ghee, Castor and Moringa Oil, Heavy Cream). I have 2 of the 3 items so I counted my leave-in as my L and I didn't want to use the Heavy Cream. So I used the Castor and Amla Nourishing Pomade as my C . So, as of this morning after taking down a few of the braids, my hair is soft but too oily in some areas from the pomade:confused:. Next time I’ll try it with the heavy cream. I think I’m gonna wear cornrows underneath my wig for a few weeks, then wear my YGN wraps hopefully I can do that for 3 weeks and then put in the crochet set.

This is my go to wig after I take out my braids. It's so old! It's a full wig but i treat it as a half wig i wear different head bands. I don't slick my edges‍.

Awesome wig!!! Love it!
I don't slick down my edges either. lol
You just affirmed an idea I had about using some of my full wigs with a headband. Thanks for the inspiration/motivation! :)

I took my hair down. I need to wash it. It's either gonna be cornrows or single braids under this wig.

Yup, I'm in singles right now that I plan to use under wigs.

Hi ladies,

I'm checking in. I bought some aloe juice (Fruit of the Valley brand) to spray my hair with under my weave. I recall experiencing a lot of growth from using aloe juice spray when I was doing wash-n-go's (WNG's) a few years ago. I also bought Retread hair conditioner by Lush. That's another conditioner I used in the past with great results. Lots of ceramides in that conditioner.

How's everyone doing??

OK, I need to make these braids smaller. This is the 3rd wash I've had in them in the 5 days they've been in and it's obvious they are not gonna last 3-4 weeks. I forgot that the bigger I make my parts the quicker the style looks worn. Guess I'll have to quit with the shortcuts and do this right. My hair does better in minibraids or micro braids, not small braids. Time to turn on some Snapped on demand and get to braiding. lol I'll see if I can get a good comparison photo when I'm done.

@MzSwift what's funny to me is that earlier today I was turning up the brightness on my phone and zooming in:giggle: overall just admiring your braids, but mainly trying to see how large (or small) they were. They look so good. Only to come back and see your follow up post. You had me contemplating retrying braids of a similar size for a minute, and then you reminded me why I probably won't lol.

:lachen: Right!!
This is one of those things that needs to be annotated in the journal bc I keep forgetting why I don't do larger braids.
With these fine strands, I think I can only do them if I don't plan to wash my hair.

Alright, I'm finished converting to minibraids. I forget how much faster it is to have shorter hair!! Lol.
I actually twisted most of the length so that they'll be faster to refresh when it's time.
I usually wear them down until the scalpy look goes away (fine hair sucks!) but it's too cold for that and I wanted to be able to show the difference in size for the pix.
Right now I'm GHEing (no ponytail) with a plastic shower cap under my satin skull cap, a bandana and a knit cap since I'm not going anywhere.

Regular braids..........................................................................Minibraids/twists

You most definitely have to resize the picture. If you have an android I can probably help.

No more braids for me. I washed my cornrows and my hair matted up. I lost so much hair taking them out. I might try again later in the year when i go back to my wigs. I will only do braids again if it do the max moisture method with deep conditioner and grease.

Oh no :cry3:

I'm so sorry to hear that. At least you have a plan of action.

Oh no! How long did you have them in? What is your take down process?

Matting is my #2 fear, behind protein overload.

Oooohhh wait - those are the snatch braids that you got done at the African shop, right?? Did you get added hair too?

I had them in for 2 weeks. They itched so bad i decided to wash my hair but that was a mistake. I should have used my dry gel shampoo instead. I just took them out. i didnt use any special products but i lost alot of hair. Usually when i take my braids down my hair is like butter with no breakage but thats due to the max moisture method

no hair was added. yes these were the African braids and it was a shame because the braids looked neat even after washing even though my hair got matted.
