Crochet Braids Revisited......

I had my hair crochet last Friday and I think I love them and will be getting them done for a whole year. The hair is light and airy. I only bought 4 packs of hair and the braider told me that I needed 5 packs which is how many I will buy in the future. I actually ordered the hair online. It's prebraided but it has a body curl on the ends. I'm sacrificing the "cute look" because crochet braids at times can look horrible but many people have complimented me on how good it looks. I am happy with the outcome and also with my new braider. She did a good job and it only took 2 hours to complete.

I have also decided during this year journey, while wearing crochet braids, to use Hairveda products when I come out of the braids. During the time when I have braids, I will continue to oil my scalp and then apply OCT/MK every other day. Once a week I will use witch hazel on my scalp to keep it clean, and I will be using Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship conditioner mixed in a 16oz cup of water to condition wash my braids. I will also spray my hair/braids with braid spray as needed.

I know, I know, everybody wants to see pics, but to be honest, I don't have a camera. I have one of those cheap ones where you have to get the film developed. I will get my husband to take some pics though but I don't know when I will be posting them. I'm happy because crochet braids was personally more healthier for my hair and it thicken and grew alot. I'm hoping to get the same results with these but I won't know until I take them down in about 6-8 weeks. I will keep you posted. Thanks for the encouragement!

Braiding your own hair in cornrow braids and using a latch hook (crochet needle) to insert pre braided hair into your cornrows. This technique was first introduced several years ago, but the hair that was available and the technique itself did not look very good. In fact many still think of this technique as being unattractive. Well, like I stated, it was the best way that made my hair thick and long so I decided to revisit this technique of crochet braids. Also the hair that's available now is more stylish. Some people have also used loose strands to do crochet braids. I may try this sometime in the future, but right now I'm happy with the type of hair that I have.

:lachen::lachen:If it wasn't out of style, as my kids call it, I would do the Crotchet braids. I loved them, cause my hair grew so much. Maybe I will get some and just wear them in a nice bun....I can pull off 8 wks surely.

I know your hair will flourish w/ these. My youngest daughter is in them now, and let me tell you, her sisters hate on her hair. They refuse to wear them, but she will (11 y.o) so of course she will be throwing her hair in their face when we take them out. I just have to remember to wash & condition, used to I would just put daily moisturizer on them for 3 mths w/ out washing....

I do feel your daughters because in my opinion they were so horrible looking. The hair that was available for crochet braids when it made it's debut was ugly hair. Now the hair has been updated and some of it looks very good. For one whole year I told myself I didn't care how the crochet braids looked because I was willing to sacrifice "looking cute" for hair health and growth. Well my crochet braids is looking very very nice. I will purchase this type of hair again. I think braids are braids no matter what kind you have whether individual, cornrows, pixie, crochet etc. and they are always in style. Crochet braids just looked bad because the hair was ugly. You should check out some of the updated hair for crochet braids. You may be pleasantly surprised. Even if I had to wear a bun in my hair for 8 weeks, I was going to do so, but I don't have to because this updated hair for crochet braids looks very attractive and I am able to style my braids in at least 3-4 different styles. I am impressed and pleased because I know that crochet braids will help contribute to my hair goal and that is long healthy thick hair.

I'm at work too, and can't see YouTube.

Can you post a pic that is similar to your style, pretty please? It sounds beautiful.

GIRL I haven't seen crochet braids in like 8 or 9 years... man I use to rock them back in the day!! People called me and my girlfriends the Crochet Clique...I didn't really like that but oh well!

I will have to check it out. I only go looking for one kind, the kind I know which is the Micro ZZ. I only use them on my youngest daughters hair.

What is the name of the kind you get?

I know it will thicken & grow some hair for real. I tell my teenagers if they will just pull it off for 3 months they will see the difference.

The BSS in my area does not carry this updated hair. I ordered mine from GoldenmartBeautySupply.com. Just click on braid/bulk and then click on synthetic braids and scroll down. I have posted a picture of the kind of hair I purchased.

I am putting crochet braids in my hair right now, and even though I'm not finished yet, I'm in love with this style!

I remember in '99-'00 in New Orleans I'd always see crochet braids that looked a HAM, and I swore I'd never get them. But I do think it was the hair used that made them look so bad.

I'm using yaky pony hair and it looks really nice. I love that I can access my scalp to wash and oil it. I'll post pics when I'm finished doing my hair.

ETA: It looked a HAM so I just took it right out without taking pics.

Anymore updates with this? I remember when my hair grew very quickly to brastrap and it was by wearing crochet braids (as we called them here, "interlocks). I was thinking of getting a sew-in, but I do remember that my hair did get a bit thinner from those, so I think once I take out my indviduals in the next couple of weeks, I am finally coming back to crochet styles.

I'm going to have my friend crochet the back and crown areas, and then have her braids the front, sides and back in individuals so I can pull back into a ponytail--making sure to be careful with my edges of course.

I'm in crochet braids now. I love this style! I purchased Freetress Water Wave, and it closely resembles my braidouts. I had a girl at church ask, "So, your hair is naturally curly?" That's how closely this hair resembles my own. I think I'm going to keep this style for the rest of the year. I wish I had pics to show you all, but I can't get either one of my daughters, to stay put long enough to take one (TEENAGERS!). Just for reference of the style you can achieve using this hair, youtube "toysvoice," to get an idea of what the finished result will look like. That's where I got the idea.
