Since my last picture update I'm almost at mid back but I'm afraid I'll lose my length. My hair tangles like crazy and it seems immune to most products, literally. For my last 3 touchups, I've changed from Affirm to ORS no lye relaxer hoping that would make a difference.

This is how I'd describe my hair:

* Non responsive to most treatment products, most raved about conditioners do not work for me except Elucence MB.
* Hair becomes heavy and tangled when wet. I loose hair!
* Glossing treatments like Clairol, don't have any affect. Color treatments also have a minimal affect, it's like my hair absorbs everything.
* More breakage than I'd like.

I try and do a protein treatment once a month and I use Salerm's 21 leave in which is the only product other than Elucence that works for my hair. It detangles it.

Well, when is the last time you clarified?

I know that if I get a lot of buildup on my hair nothing wants to work on it. Once I clarify my normal moisterizers and cons work much better.

After clarifying, do a deep con. after rinsing out the deep con, do an acv/water rinse or use a little acidyfying conditioner (should help with the tangling issue you have)

Definitly run a search on Porosity Control threads.

Its possible that you may end up having to dust a bit. its always best to check to make sure.

Are balancing between protein & moisturizing conditioners? Also: have you tried using Keracare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo or Creme of Nature Detangling Conditioning Shampoo, or Kids Organics Shea Butter Detangling Shampoo to help w/ the knots/tangles in ur hair? This adds great slip when washing and it is very detangable if it isn't already detangled itself. I HTHs

I use to have the same problem. I'd say, wash in 10 large braids, claify, use Porosity Control as a last rinse (the comb will glide through, trust me I have hair that matts when wet), use Giovanni Direct Leave In, I have used Salerm 21 before for a long time but for me, Giovanni works better, god bless...

Yeah, it might be a problem with your cuticles not lying flat which is causing tangles. I agree that you should use Porosity Control and do a cold water rinse before detangling.

I'm having the same problem. I use the Keracare shampoo/condtioner and used the 1st lather last week. My hair is fine, it grows fast, but has thinned out considerably. In my case I'm not sure if stress is a factor, my life is so busy.

Please let me know if you find something that works.

i agree. i use cream of nature, the green bottle and it helps with tangles. and do u use a pre poo? that causes me to lose less strands when i wash. if i dont usea pree poo it's hair all over my hands.

I use Amla Oil as a pre-poo: i leave it in my hair overnight

There is one lady of Fotki (McElwee Wife) she used Suave Conditioner: Egg: Peppermint Oil or EVOO mixed together as a protein Pre-poo: HTH

Just wanted to encourage you to try the Porosity Control. I agree with redRiot about it sounding like your cuticles are raised which will lead to tangling and mess with how products work on your hair.

Good luck, sounds like this is really stressing you out, but it will get better.

Is this the name of a product you can buy?

Try to saturate your hair with coconut oul prior to washing. Wash your hair in the shower so that the water is streaming in a downwards motion. After you are done shampooing saturate your hair again with coconut oil, let it sit and rinse out.

It works wonders for some. It may help you.

Let us know.:)

Everyone Should already know my answer- check my porosity control is the TRUTH thread.....

what you should do is do a deep treatment with porosity control on your hair, under a cap for an hour... do it everytime you wash/condition for three weeks....

You will definitely see a difference...

I agree with those who said clarify and use the porosity control. Fermodyl 619 is a great leave in as well as the Giovanni Direct.

Yup, I agree with all the PC people. Sounds like you hair is extremely porous. When it's like that it will break and not "hold" onto any products, including water, which you need for moisture. When my hair gets like this I do a full PC treatment. First I shampoo with PC shampoo, then I use PC Hair Mender packs (little small blue pack, but does come in a bottle) and deep condition with heat for about 30 minutes, then I follow up with PC conditioner that I let sit for 5 minutes in the shower. After that, I use the Fermodyl formula 233 leave-in. My hair turns into different hair after this treatment. It's a powerful treatment to fix breakage and porosity. You can get all of these products for about $30.00 total and they last quite a while. HTH;)

ETA: I do this at least once a month to keep porosity in check.

Yeah, sounds like it may be time to clarify. Also, when was your last trim?

I clarify every 3-4 weeks depending on how my hair feels. I use L'anza.
My last trim was 3 weeks ago. I trim with every relaxer and my last trim was actually a cut, 3" taken off.

My current regimen is:

Sometimes I'll pretreat with a Phyto Specific Revitalizing Oil Treatment
Elucence shampoo
Elucence moisture balance conditioner
Salerm 21 leave in
Protein treatment 1x a month

These are pretty much the only products that work on my hair, I don't know why. My hair has been like this for years, even directly after clarifying 95% of the products raved about and others have zero affect on my hair. I'm begining to think I'm doombed to have tangled hair forever, the fact that most conditioners have no affect on my hair is what baffles me.

Thanks guys, I'll try that :)

Someone else said raised cuticle, I'm assuming that's connected with porous hair. Will my hair always be like this or does it mean I'm doing wrong?

Lavender,
are these the porosity control shampoo and conditioners you're referring to? http://www.ebonyline.com/hair-care-by-brand-porosity-control.html or these http://www.metrobeauty.com/Hair-Care/Conditioners/Roux-Porosity-Control-Conditioner.html
Hopefully I can get away with doing this once a month, my hair has gotten too long to rollerset myself so I get it done at the hair salon but once a month I don't rollerset and use that as an opportunity to do specific hair treatments myself.
