Hi Ladies,

Quick question please. What is the process/steps to effectively moisturize ends? What are good products to use on the ends?

Thanks!

I just part my hair in 4 but it really depends on how I'm wearing my hair. I have fine hair so if I'm wearing my hair up or in a protective style I'll use a creamy moisturizer and I just hold the section and I rub a small amount of the moistuizer down the length.

I'll also rub a dime size amount through my hands and rub it on the top and sides of my hair.

If I'm wearing my hair down and straight or in a curly style I use a spray. I just spray once lightly on the ends and then seal with oil.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, that was very helpful^. Are there any others that is willing to share their ends moisturizing process?

Thank you!

I'm still working out my regimen, but for now (while I'm doing mostly buns and twistouts), I like to rub Nexxus Humectress or Pantene Split-end preventer (really any creamy water-based moisturizer) into my damp or dry hair, concentrating on ends. To seal, I use Ion Serum. I like using serums to seal rather than oils, because I dont like a greasy feel. This seems to be working well for me, I used Nexxus this morning for my bun and my hair is suuuuper soft.

After washing (or co-washing), I seal my hair with castor oil on damp hair (my leave-in tends to just be my condish). After that, I apply olive oil to the ends. I tend to wash, condition etc in four sections so it's easier to manage and it helps my ends not get tangled up.

At night, I apply more olive oil to the ends.

eta: I've seen in youtube videos people rub their ends between their palms. Personally, my ends could not withstand that kind of treatment, so I do not do that.

On wash days, I prepoo with coconut oil, dabbing my ends with a lot of it. Then I focus on washing the scalp and let the shampoo run through the rest of my hair. This keeps my ends from drying out. I then condition with V05 for a few minutes focusing on the ends. After rinsing and blotting with a towel, I apply more coconut oil and shea butter mixed with safflower oil to my hair. I dab a generous amount on my ends. Then I twist my hair all the way down to the ends if it isn't already twisted. (Twisting allows my hair to soak up the products; rollersetting can do the same). HTH! This lasts me for the week.

Olive oil and castor oil are other alternatives to prepooing and sealing, respectively.

This has always been a struggle for me, I am relaxed and wear my hair out everyday (bad I know) and I always found it hard to keep my ends moisturized. This resulted in lots of split ends. I did not want to weigh my hair down with heavy moisturizers every day. I have started using the Hawaiian Silky 14 and 1 and that has made a huge difference, I am able to apply it to my ends at night before I wrap as well and it does not weigh my hair down, it is still light and bouncy and have really seen a reduction in my split ends. HTH

When it comes to my ends, I will moisturize using Elasta QP's Mango Butter. This usually gets the job done for me (I just love that stuff! :lick:). After that, I USED to seal with EVOO, but the smell started getting to me. I'm thinking of buying or something else a bit less smelly to me and seal with that. I do this daily, or every other day sometimes. I also wear lots of protective styles--the ends of my hair haven't seen my clothing for WEEKS :lachen:, so I think that helps me keep moisturizing down to every other day. HTH! :yep:

But doesn't the Hawaiian Silky make your hair revert? I loved that at first but after a couple of days my hair puffs up like something crazy. I flat-iron after every wash and bun the rest of the week and I try to keep the straightness as long as possible but I had to stay away from that stuff for this reason.

I moisturize my ends w/ Jane Carter Solution Hair Nourishing Cream, and I seal them w/ Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Oil. I put some of the hair cream on my index finger, then I rub some of the cream from my index finger onto my thumb. Then I press my ends between my index finger and my thumb. I repeat this process when I seal with oil.

I usually start using it after about 4 weeks post, I am at 8 weeks right now. My hair just drinks:lick: it up and is soft and light the next day!

I moisturize my ends with Frederic Glossing cream. On wash day after I remove my rollers, I put a little bit of cream on the ends of each individual roller. Every day up until wash day I moisturize my ends morning and night.

If my hair is pressed, I moisturize my ends ONLY. I put a dab of Oyin Whipped Pudding in my hand, and rub it in my hand well...then I rub it along the ends only.

To seal in the moisture, I use either Vatika Oil (lighter), or Oyins Burnt Sugar Pomade (a little heavier) by using the same technique, emulsifying it in my hand first, then rubbing it on the ends.

I do this about three times weekly.

Mmmhhh, gotta love that Frederick Fekkai glossing cream...that stuff is the truth! :yep:

i mostly moisturize my ends with coconut oil alone since it penetrates the hair shaft, but closer to wash day i'll use a dab of elasta qp recovery and seal with evoo, vatika or almond oil and sometimes castor. i also use the recovery on my edges and nape and seal. works wonders for my drier areas. i prepoo with one of my concoctions of oils & conditioner. i have never like using oil on my hair because of the weight, so IF i use it beforehand i will only put it on my scalp and massage (although it carries throughout my hair) and the ends only. i never used to use any oils and my hair grows just fine, (unless wearing a bun). since i am transitioning i've learned to balance my oils to keep the lod in good shape.

gabbanagirl: your hair is lovely. so shiny & silky!

Spray with BRX (leave-in spray) then seal with an oil-based cream moisturizer like Profectiv or M.O.M.

Any oil will do it for me most times: castor, shea, olive, or coconut oils do fine to seal in moisture on my ends.
