Well ladies, 7 months ago today I started my journey to transition to natural. I must say that over these long months I have learned a lot about my natural texture and caring for natural hair in general; however, not enough for me to continue this journey long-term. While my hair is much healthier now, I have come to the conclusion that I will be able to care for my hair better when it’s relaxed again. I have tried to be as patient as possible when it comes with dealing with my natural texture and my relaxed ends, but I have, many times, lost my battle on wash days with detangling and matting of my hair, which has caused me to lose lots of hair. Tuesday’s wash day was an eye opener for me. I washed as usual and detangled in the shower and as always I was losing the battle so much so that this time it stopped up my drain. I don’t think that Tuesday’s wash exclusively stopped up my shower drain, I think it is a continuation of every wash day. I know they say that we lose up to 100 strands of hair per day, but for some reason, this scares me when it’s coming out of my head. When I lose hair, it’s not breakage, it’s definitely shedding because I can see the white bulb, but it sometimes comes out in many strands verses just one. This has been going on for quite some time but more recently when I started using OCT. Normally I don’t worry much about it because I wear my hair in braids and only comb on wash days and realize that over time the shed hair builds up in the braids causing this to happen; however, I cannot get over the amount of hair that comes out each time I comb and fear that I may be doing more harm than good. So, with that said, I have decided that it will be best for me to go back to my relaxed hair. I think, with the information that I have acquired from you girls on the board and by joining the relaxed support team, I will be able to continue my journey to achieving healthy and long hair. While I have definitely decided that I will relax, I have decided not to do this until December. I would like to reach APL by then and, I’m hoping that wearing my hair in braids under a wig without much manipulation, will help me achieve this goal. I am going to do everything that I can to get through the next five months without relaxing so that I can at least say, I did give my hair a break from the relaxer for a whole year and because of what I’ve learned with caring for natural hair, I will definitely continue my stretches in between my relaxers. I plan to go at least 12 to 16 weeks between relaxers. I can already see a difference in the health of my hair when I flatiron and I hope that when I relax in December, I will continue to see this progress. Over the next several months, I will need all the support I can get from you (natural, texlaxed, and relaxed) ladies . You have helped me tremendously since joining this board in December 06, and I hope I will continue to have your support as I continue my long hair care journey. [/FONT]
