Me being nosy, I went to the stylist and inquired as to what the purpose were of those rollers in that shape. She said this was another way get those shirley temple-esque curls but with more volume and body closer to the roots while falling in tapered curls at the ends of the hair. HTH any!
Interesting. It seems like that would be the opposite of what you want. At least the opposite of what I'd want being natural. I think I'd want the hair next to my roots to lie down more because my roots are usually the puffiest when I try to roller set, or twist, or braid, or anything for that matter. They don't need any more volume. But maybe if a professional did it it would be different.
