Conditioning Under the Dryer Problem

Lately, I've noticed that when I condition with Nexxus Humectress under the dryer for 20 minutes with medium heat, that when I remove the plastic conditioning cap my hair looks and feels dry.

I mean, it looks like nothing is on my hair, like the dryer sapped everything.

Should I just use it without heat?

Please help!

By the way, I do this once weekly.

Thanks!

I have the exact same problem. I was so convinced that in order to deep conditioner I needed heat so I kept using lekair cholesterol with heat, but no matter how much I piled on, afterward the top part of my hair that is closet to the dryer felt dry. So I stopped using heat for awhile to deep condition and just left it on longer. My hair turned out much better. Is heat really neccessary to have the condition penetrate well? I don't know. I'd like some feedback on that as well.

The hooded dryer works wonders for me. I just make sure my hair is nice and moist with water, before applying the conditioner. For me, if I towel dry it too much, then it turns out dry after I take the plastic cap off ... after sitting under the dryer.

Are you towel druing too much? Are you putting on enough conditioner?

I use a heating cap. I put on a plastic cap and then the heating cap... try that and see if you get better moisture.

Maybe I am towel drying too much. I'm pretty sure I'm using enough conditioner.

I only seem to notice when I use Humectress though. When I use Motions Moisture Plus, when I remove the cap there's water in it, with the Humectress nothing.

Thanks.

I wear a plastic cap in the shower w/ Humectress for about 10 minutes and my hair comes out soft as can be! A warm towel over the cap w/ a dry towel over that one (to keep the heat in) may also work better.

Luna,

Do you ever condition under the dryer or do you always use the method above?

I've done what you suggested and liked the results, it's just that you always hear you should condition with heat under the dryer for the most part.

I dont usually use heat b/c I havent noticed the results to be any better w/it. The above method works for me! I guess my hair prefers moist heat rather than dry heat.

Yeah, I never use the Keraphix under the dryer. With that being said I'll use your method for the Humectress.

Thanks!

prettybrowneyes, try a heat cap! i had this same problem last year, my conditioner seemed to dissappear and my hair looked dry. i purchased a heat cap, and it gives incredible results, my hair is and looks moisturized and soft!

Okay, you're the second person on this thread to suggest that

***adding Heat Cap to Shopping List****

Do they sell them at Sally's Beauty Supply?

Also, Years ago I used to just use those gold conditioning caps and I really liked the results. I didn't do it too often because that was when I used to go to the salon regularly, but, the rare times I did my hair at home I conditioned under those gold conditioning caps.

Does anyone else just apply conditioner without towel drying his/her hair?

I never use a towel on my hair at any time. And particularly not before applying conditioner, since my aim is to add/retain moisture. I just make sure my hair isn't dripping wet before applying conditioner so that it doesn't drip off too then I don a plastic cap and go under a hooded dryer. My hair never feels dry afterwards. Not when I use UBH and not when I use Lekair Cholesterol. According to the Pantene website, conditioners just smooth the cuticle and cancel out the negative charge of hair strands (since conditioners have positively charge molecules) and thus reduce the static that's associated with fly-aways. I suppose moisturizing conditioner do have a little bit of water in them but is it enough?

Unless you're pretty sure your conditioner is laden with sufficient water to provide all the moisture you need, I don't see why you need to dry your hair first. My guess is that hair that feels dry after the deep (moisture) conditioning is simply hair that drank up the little water/moisture there was under the cap and is still thirsting for more. If there'd been more water available, I think your hair'd drink up what it needed and have a moisturized softness. JMHO.

With that said, I don't think you need a dryer's heat to deep condition. Wearing a plastic cap and wrapping your head with a towel as suggested above works just as well. So does wearing a plastic cap and sitting in the sun. But the cap must be there so you aren't getting dry heat.

I'm with nonie. I never towel-dry my hair. I just squeeze a little bit of the water out in order to apply the conditioner. Then, I either let it sit while I finish showering or I sit under my hooded dryer - using a plastic cap for both. I've gotten similar results with both methods but I seem to get better penetration when using the dryer method.
