Conditioning overnight..

Who puts what in their hair all night long? I've been using Cholesterol here and there...I want to try something different. Anyone had amazing softness with something other than cholesterol?

I did that once but got scared off by this article that said that putting conditioner in for longer than the recommended time makes the hair shaft swell and more susceptible to breakage when styling.

I agree with LondonDiva, I don't recommend a conditioner overnight, but perhaps a hot oil treatment. Maybe olive oil, Hot Six etc. would help.

I have put conditioner on my hair and let it remain on my hair overnight a zillion times. /images/graemlins/grin.gif I've even done this with Aubrey Organics GPB. I have not experienced any negative effects from doing this. Sometimes when it's time to rinse the conditioner out, I just go to bed (because I'm tired/sleepy) instead and finish it up in the morning

Hey CarmenRose
There are two London ladies now. That was Londongirl. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I sometimes do a deep conditioning overnight like Allandra when I'm just too tired to wash it out. I usually do this with ORS Hair Mayo with no adverse side effects. The only downside to this is the heat that's generated underneath the shower caps causes my scalp to itch. ugh!!!

Allandra does the same thing happen to you?

No, I haven't experienced this.

I use ORS HAir Mayo overnight sometimes too. It can get messy though, so in addition to the plastic cap, I put a towel on my pillow.

Londondiva, my scalp itches too but I figured it was the conditioner, not the heat.

Hi Neeki

I think it was Tracy that also said when she DC overnight that her scalp itches. I think it has a lot to do with the scalp getting too warm and not getting any air. Sometimes Iif I have a hot bath more so than a hot shower and wear a plastic cap, I get the itchies when I take it off. It's like a sauna effect, just screaming to breathe.

You'll know if it's the conditioner, when it doesn't itch your scalp normally. Mine is down to sleeping with the plastic cap on. I do still do it as it doesn't happen all the time, but I have to be EXTREMELY tired to not want to wash it out.

I'm soooh sorry, ladies! It's so wonderful to have two London girls online, I didn't mean to disclude anyone. /images/graemlins/blush.gif /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

How could I? I love Britcoms and am dying to travel overseas one day soon! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I leave any moisturizing conditioner or Aubrey GPB on overnight without any problems.

LMAO @ Carmenrose.

It's OK girly, no harm done. I keep looking at posts thinking I've made and then don't remember writing it at all (cause I haven't) I just read too fast /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I'm glad some others are leaving in their conditioner overnight. My hair has not suffered from it either and I've never heard of it being bad for your hair. I don't do it every single night but sometimes, after I workout in the evening, it just makes sense to leave it in since it's so late when I shower anyway. My hair has not suffered from leaving in a bit of cholesterol overnight. Sometimes, I even take a pea-sized amount and work it through my hair as a leave-in.

I used different conditioners in my hair when I leave it in overnight. I have used GPB, Clairol Renewal 5X, Wella Vivality, Biosilk Fruit Cocktail, Suave Coconut, Pantene Deep Fortifying. I love how my hair feels in the morning so I usually do it at least once a week.

Thanks jrw, i like to do mine quite frequently as well. My hair is more manageable than ever when I leave it in overnight. It's not different than walking around with conditioner in your hair for hours and hours during the day, right? /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Same here. I have got to do this once a week ... What one should avoid is combing the hair while its wet and "swollen". Ie. Condition overnight, rinse, let it dry out a bit (and get unswollen) then comb or detangle.
I also add quite a bit of other oils into the conditioner. Can explain why... it just " makes the hair feel better "
